Part 15
It had been a few days since Vir had last spoke to Bawri. He realised too late that he had again broken her heart, this time as Dhwani. He kept trying to call her but for some reason the call wouldn't go through. It seemed like she had blocked him. He sent messages as well but they were left unanswered. What was he going to do? Well there was nothing he could do, until she came and talked to him. The other option was to go direct to her apartment. He considered that but then realised, if she was avoiding him, she most likely would not answer the door. He would just have to wait for his next chance to bump into her. Then he would apologise and give his explanation, that he does indeed like her if not love her. Then eventually tell her the truth of her identity. Having decided that, he wondered how to go about bumping into her. He was just about to call Daksh when the doorbell rang. Someone was at the door, he would have to wait to make his next move.
------------------------------
Dhwani got all dressed, ready for the day. She looked at her engagement ring and smiled. Lately, she and Daksh were spending so much time together. In the past he was always busy but now he was making time just for her. No matter how she felt about Daksh, there was no doubt in her mind that he loved her very much. However, despite spending so much time together, she had yet to be able to see him as more than a friend but she thought with time, everything would get better. It would also allow her to get over her heartbreak. She tried not to think of Mukhiji and what could have been but then remembered his words clearly. No one can take my wife's place. She had done what she could on her end. At least she wouldn't have to live in regret for not even trying. Shaking herself out of those mundane thoughts, she got ready and waited for Daksh to call. They were going out giving invitations today, for their engagement. Giving out invitations was fine but she just dreaded going to Mukhiji's house to give him the invitation. She had been avoiding him, she blocked his number and ignored his messages but today she would have to face him. Well once they gave him the invitation, Mukhiji would know that she has moved on. Not that he didn't think that already. She had not actually confessed her feelings directly to him but there was no point. That was water under the bridge. That was in the past now and she had a bright future to look forward to, a future with her best friend, Daksh.
The whole day went by in a blur as she and Daksh distributed their engagement invites. Everyone they met, hugged and congratulated the both of them. She was exhausted by the time they finished, or at least when she thought they were finished. Daksh said there was one last invite left and that was Mukhiji's. Dhwani's face fell but she quickly put a smile on her face so Daksh wouldn't realise.
Before she knew it, they were at Mukhij's house. As Daksh opened the car door for her, ever the gentleman, Dhwani's heart started beating faster. It was beating so fast, she felt like it may jump out of her body any moment. She didn't realise that she stopped walking and stood still on the spot, until Daksh asked if she was okay. She replied yes and slowly approached Mukhiji's front door. Daksh held her hand as he rang the doorbell.
------------------------------
Vir opened the door to find Bawri at his door. He was just thinking about her and here she was. She was with Daksh and they were holding each other's hands but it didn't matter, Vir ignored that. The important thing was that she was here. This was his chance to speak to her. He would try and come up with something so he could speak to her privately.
Vir led both of them into the sitting area and both sat down together, next to each other. Snacks and drinks were served as they just made casual chit-chat. Eventually Daksh stated the reason why they were there together. They had come to invite Vir and his family to their engagement. Vir felt like the air had been taken out of his lungs, such was his shock. Vir quietly congratulated the both of them on their engagement. He looked towards Bawri and she moved her gaze away from him. He noticed her looking at her hands and saw the ring on her engagement finger. How can she get engaged when she loves me? He realised she was acting out as a result of his rejection of her, a rejection he didn't intend to give her. How do I speak to her without this Daksh around? Before Vir could contemplate on what he should do, Daksh and Bawri stood up to take their leave. Stating they had other plans. Before he knew it, Daksh held Bawri's hand and was leaving. Vir was just left watching as Daksh took away his Bawri right in front of his eyes and he was left helpless.
On Dhwani’s way out, Sudha blocked her way and gave her a hug. As they embraced each other, Sudha whispered to Dhwani, ‘Are you sure about this?’ Dhwani smiled and took herself out of the embrace. ‘Yes I’m sure. Sudha please forget about what I said and please be at my engagement, to support me as a friend. Can you do that for me?’ Sudha got teary and nodded to signal yes. Before Sudha could bring up Mukhiji, Dhwani thanked her and bid her goodbye.
Vir picked up a glass of water to smash on the floor but then chose not to. He wasn't going to let his anger get the better of him. It's what led to him losing Bawri in the first place. He needed to stay calm. Bawri was still his and he still had time. He would just have to have the patience to tolerate whatever God was planning for now.
Sudha came towards Vir and advised that he should tell the truth to Bawri as the longer that time is going on, the more difficult it will be for Bawri to accept the truth as for now, she is dreaming of becoming Mrs Daksh Singh Shekhawat. Vir explained to Sudha that he will not allow it to get too late and if the situation escalates to Daksh and Bawri's wedding, then he won't hesitate to tell her the truth as she already loves him. He knows it and Bawri does too. He reassured Sudha that he will not let it get too far, that it reaches to Daksh and Bawri's wedding day.
------------------------------
The day of the engagement had arrived.
Dhwani was getting ready at the Shekhawat House as Chandni requested it of her. It was the practical decision considering the engagement is being held there. As Dhwani was getting ready in the guest room, she started getting nervous and was getting butterflies in her stomach. She couldn't even think about eating for worry she would bring it back up. She washed her face again for the umpteenth time to quell her nerves. Why am I so nervous? It's only an engagement. Dhwani just wasn't able to understand that her body was telling her something. She stood in front of her mirror ready to start her make-up when Chandni Di knocked and entered her room. She had come to check on her and that this was her last chance to run away. Dhwani laughed at her comments and insisted she was here to stay. Chandni Di reminded her to take off the ring on her finger as Daksh would make her wear a new one during the engagement. Dhwani duly took it off and left it in the drawer. After Chandni Di had left, Dhwani realised there was no time to waste and for her to finally start getting ready.
------------------------------
Vir was getting ready for the engagement. He was nervous as well. He was trying to think of a way to stop the engagement but he had no idea how to. All he could hope was that Bawri saw the error of her ways and backed out. He chose to wear a black kurta as he knew she liked to see him dressed in black. It was also the same kurta she chose on the day he bumped into her shopping. He hoped she would be left starstruck seeing him. Then he would take whatever chance he got offered to talk to her. He knew it was wrong to do it during somebody else's engagement but he didn't care. His and Bawri's lives were on the line. Daksh would be heartbroken but better for him to be heartbroken now than later on.
------------------------------
Vir, Veer and Sudha arrived at the Shekhawat house for the engagement. They were quite early as there were hardly any guests there other than them. Chandni came to welcome them immediately and she praised Vir's style and looks. 'Don't worry Mukhiji, I remember everything you said the other day. I'm not flirting but just complimenting you on your style.' Vir smiled back at her and thanked her for the compliment. 'When will we get to see Daksh and Dhwani? 'Oh they're still getting ready'. I'll just be back, please help yourself to drinks.' Chandni said and started attending to other guests arriving.
Vir quickly took the opportunity to excuse himself from his son and daughter-in-law with an excuse of looking for the bathroom. Sudha knew he wasn't going to the bathroom at all but to look for Purvi. She smirked to herself and Veer noticed. 'What are you smiling at?' Veer asked as he looked around to see if anyone else was around them. 'No, nothing. Just remembered something.' Veer just continued to look at her strangely but eventually let it go. She's so weird. Sudha then called a waiter over to get drinks for herself and Veer. 'Let's just enjoy ourselves whilst we're here okay?' Veer nodded and took the drink. He tried not to think about any chaos his father could potentially cause by chasing after his Bawri and ruining their business deal with Daksh Shekhawat.
------------------------------
Dhwani was still in her room, getting ready and annoyed as she was unable to tie to dori to her blouse. She was dressed in a light pink lenga. She made a call to Chandni but she didn't answer. 'Now who do I ask for help?' She opened her door to call out for Chandni but she guessed no one was there to hear her calls for help. Eventually a staff member walked past, she asked him to go call Chandni to come to her room. She went back in her room towards the mirror but had left her room ajar for Chandni Di. She made an attempt to get to the dori again but was unsuccessful, when she heard a knock on the door. 'Di, just come in. I really need your help with this dor...' Dhwani stated as she looked up towards the mirror to find not Chandni, but Mukhiji.
------------------------------
Vir started searching for Bawri's room but he didn't want to ask any of the staff around. What would they think? He pretended to look for the bathroom when finally someone did ask if he was looking for something. He felt like he had explored the full house and still had not found Bawri. He didn't want to resort to knocking on every door so decided to head back downstairs. That's when he noticed a door ajar. As he approached the room, saw that Bawri was getting ready. How luck had favoured him at the end moment.
Vir quietly knocked on the door and Bawri asked him to come in, assuming him to be Chandni. He took the chance and entered the room. Seeing his Bawri, his breath caught. She looked so beautiful. He was left speechless.
Bawri saw Vir by looking at her mirror.
Dh: Mukhiji. You... here?
Dhwani realised her back was on show and immediately turned around to face him. She didn't realise her back was still visible to him through the mirror. Vir smiled seeing her reaction.
Dh: I'm sorry, I thought you were Chandni Di.
Vir: If you want, I can tie the dori for you... Only if you permit.
Vir had to be cautious. She was probably still upset over what he said. Which is why she was getting engaged today.
Dh: What are you doing here? You should be downstairs.
Vir: I came to speak to you. To apologise.
Dh: Apologise for what?
Vir: For what I said.
Dh: What was he apologising for? For breaking my heart or for something else? Dhwani was very confused.
Vir: But first, let me tie your dori because I can still see your back in the mirror. (Smirking)
Dhwani immediately put her hands on her back.
Dh: No, I'll get someone else to do it. Di should be coming to help
Vir: Everyone else is busy. I saw Chandniji downstairs attending to guests
Dhwani felt like she had heard this all before but before she could ponder on it any further, Mukhiji came forward. Dhwani took a step back and bumped into the mirror.
Vir: Look, the quicker I tie it for you. The quicker your back will be covered and not on display.
Dhwanti thought he was right so permitted him to tie the dori for her. She turned around the face the mirror. Mukhiji came towards her and grabbed the dori. As he grabbed the dori, his hand accidentally touched her back and Dhwani closed her eyes due to the tingling sensation she was feeling again.
Vir noticed his effect on Bawri and again smiled. She was always affected by his touch. That did not change no matter what happened. Vir took his time tieing the dori as he took his chance to gaze at her. He eventually finished and moved away from her.
Dh: Thank you.
Vir: You're welcome. Errrrmmm... I was saying that I wanted to apologise and I needed to speak to you... about this engagement.
Dh: What about the engagement?
Before Vir could continue, he was interrupted.
Ch: Dhwani, do you need help? I just saw your... Oh Mukhiji, what are you doing here?
Vir: I was just looking for the bathroom. When I walked past this room, I noticed Dhwani needed help.
Ch: Oh okay. Well Dhwani, you need to come down soon, Daksh is getting restless and everyone is dying to see you. Mukhiji, let's go and let Dhwani make her entrance.
Vir knew he couldn't stick around any longer and made his exit. Chandni stayed for a moment longer to ask if Dhwani was okay. Dhwani on the other hand was worried if Chandni Di had witnessed what had just happened but the way Di was behaving, it didn't seem like she had. Thank God.
Dh: I'll be downstairs in five minutes Di.
Ch: That's fine... Are you sure you're okay? You look a bit... peaky.
Dh: No, I'm fine. It's just nerves. Don't worry.
Chandni accepted her answer and left to go downstairs. Dhwani did her final touch ups and proceeded to make her way downstairs.
------------------------------
Dhwani took a deep breath in before making her way down the stairs to hall. She could feel everyone's eyes on her. She looked to where Daksh was standing and she noticed Mukhiji standing right behind him. Why is Mukhiji everywhere I look? As she kept staring, she noticed Mukhiji wearing a black kurta with a matching vest. He had a blue pagdi on to complete the look and as usual, he looked the most distinguished of everyone there. Dhwani immediately looked away as Mukhiji's eyes caught hers. I need to snap out of this. We can never be. She then smiled at Daksh and he signalled her to come downstairs quickly.
Dhwani was so nervous and worried that she may fall down the stairs so she made sure to hold the rails/bannister. She finally made it to the bottom of the stairs and Daksh was right there, ready to hold her hand and take her to the centre of the hall. 'Are you nervous?' Dhwani nodded. 'Don't be, also I must say, you look stunning.' 'You don't look too bad either.' Dhwani replied.
Chandni Di then made an announcement that the engagement would happen in due course but first, there would be a celebration with dancing. Daksh then took Dhwani to the dance floor.
As Daksh and Dhwani danced. Vir could not stop staring at the Bawri. He kept looking at her, hoping she would notice. When she noticed and realised that he was staring at her, she again moved her gaze away. She could not deal with his blazing intense gazes. She kept looking away but always ended up looking back at Mukhiji to see if he was still there. Whenever she looked at him, it was as if he hadn't moved his eyes away from when they last locked eyes. She couldn't handle this anymore and so she excused herself away from Daksh to go outside for a moment. As she did that, Mukhiji's eyes followed her. Neither realised that Chandni had noticed everything.
------------------------------
Dhwani made her way outside to get a moments reprieve from Mukhiji. Why is he doing this? I can't even ignore him no matter how much I try. What do I do? While lost in her thoughts, Dhwani didn't notice Chandni come outside either.
Ch: You okay?
Dh: Oh my God Di! You scared me!
Dhwani placed her hand on her rapidly beating heart.
Ch: Sorry Dhwani, I didn't mean to startle you. Why did you leave the hall? It's your engagement, you should be inside.
Dh: I just came to take a break. Just loud music, so many people and...
Ch: ...And Mukhiji?
Dh: Yes! I mean no. I just meant there's too many eyes on me.
Ch: It is your engagement.
Dh: I know and I'll be inside in a moment. You don't need to keep an eye on me.
Ch: Are you sure?
Dh: What do you mean?
Ch: I mean to say that I'm not blind Dhwani. I can see what's up between you and Mukhiji.
Dh: Di, what are you saying?
Ch: I can't believe I didn't notice before. May be I was too busy chasing after Mukhiji, to not see what was right in front of my eyes.
Dhwani didn't know what to say.
Ch: You like Mukhiji, don't you?
Dh: What?
Ch: Don't deny it. I've been watching you both inside and I saw him in your room before. So tell me the truth. Do you like Mukhiji?
Dhwani could no longer lie. She had been caught.
Dh: Yes.
Ch: And he was the person you were talking about when you called me months ago, asking about love?
Dh: Yes.
Ch: Oh my God! I'm such an idiot. I thought you were talking about Daksh. When it was Mukhiji.
Dhwani just nodded in affirmation.
Ch: Then why are you getting engaged to Daksh, if you love Mukhiji?
Dh: Mukhiji clearly still loves his wife.
Ch: So?
Dh: So I'm not going to live my life in misery, crying over my unrequited love. Chasing after a man who can never love me.
Ch: But do you think that's fair on Daksh? You've said yes to him because you can't have Mukhiji.
Dh: No. That's not true. I wasn't going to say yes to Daksh regardless of what happened with Mukhiji but by speaking to Daksh. I knew he is the perfect life partner for me. He's my best friend and my happiness means everything to him. He loves me so much that I know I'll be happy with him.
Ch: But you don't love him.
Dh: I know that but love can happen after marriage too and I will do everything I can to keep Daksh happy. Daksh is not a rebound for me. I thought over everything before saying yes to him.
Ch: Well, now what about Mukhiji?
Dh: What about him?
Ch: He clearly has feelings for you.
Dh: What nonsense! He's made it clear, he doesn't have feelings for me.
Ch: I just watched you and Mukhiji make eyes at each other. He clearly has feelings for you.
Dhwani didn't want to believe it. She couldn't want to get hope for it to then come crashing down.
Dh: You must be mistaken and... Even if he does, it's only because I look similar to his late wife. I will not become someone's second choice and anyways, now it's too late. I've made my decision.
Ch: Dhwani, don't go through with this engagement if you love someone else. I'm not saying it because I'm Daksh' sister. I'm saying it as your sister. I don't want three lives ruined over a wrong decision.
Dh: Don't worry Di. I've made the right decision. Soon enough me and Daksh will be married and Mukhiji will go back to his village. It'll be like he never came into our lives.
Ch: But he has. Can you really live your life pretending he doesn't exist? I am infatuated with Mukhiji and I can never forget him. So I don't know how you plan to. Plus Mukhiji and Daksh are working together as well.
Dh: They're working on one deal together. Soon enough that will be over. Even if he stays, it doesn't matter, I will be Daksh' wife by then.
Ch: Dhwani stop being stubborn. You'll just end up hurting yourself along with Daksh.
Dh: Di, please stop insisting on this. I've decided and I'm going back inside. Are you coming?
Ch: I hope you're making the right decision.
Dh: I know I am.
Dhwani then walked back inside but Chandni stood outside for a while longer. Wondering what to do. Should I tell Daksh? He deserves to know. Dhwani was being stubborn but she couldn't let Daksh' life be ruined. She needed to protect him but then she thought she couldn't say anything now. They were at the engagement. Daksh' reputation would be ruined and it would be all over the papers by the next day. Whatever she decided, she would do after the engagement. Having made her mind up, she went back inside.
------------------------------
Dhwani went back into the hall and made her way next to Daksh. She could feel someone's eyes on her and when she looked around, Mukhiji was staring at her again. Is what Di said true? Does Mukhiji have feelings for me? Before she could ponder any further, Daksh was calling her name. 'Where are you lost?'. 'No, nowhere. You were saying?' 'I was just saying it's nearly time for our engagement. Back out now before it's too late.' Daksh joked but he wasn’t to know the turmoil of Dhwani’s heart after her conversation with Chandni.
Chandni had made it back into the hallway. She announced that the ring exchange would happen now. As she made the announcement, she noticed Mukhiji's expression and he clearly didn’t look happy. This further confirmed Chandni’s suspicions that Mukhiji clearly had feelings for Dhwani.
Daksh and Dhwani both walked towards the stage set for their engagement. Dhwani was clearly very nervous but Daksh held her hand to calm her nerves. Soon enough Daksh placed the ring on Dhwani’s finger and also placed a kiss on her hand. He then placed his hand forward and waited for Dhwani to place the ring on. Vir just stood there helpless, watching the ring exchange as Dhwani slowly placed the ring on Daksh’ finger. Vir closed his eyes to try and stop the tears from flowing so visibly in front of everyone. He quickly wiped his tears and clapped his hands together as did the rest of the guests there. Chandni gave Dhwani a hug and whispered in her ear that she needed to be honest with Daksh as Dhwani clearly wasn’t happy with this engagement, it was evident on her face and so, for now to keep smiling until the party was over. Daksh also gave Dhwani a quick hug and over his shoulder, Dhwani could just see Mukhiji staring at her again. What am I doing?
—---------------------------
Vir sat down at his table with Sudha and Veer. He had decided he was not going to wait any longer. Whatever chance he would get to speak with Bawri, he would take. Regardless of the fact that it was Bawri’s engagement and to hell with Daksh. He just wanted Bawri back in his life and that would happen. She was his, is his and will always remain his. Veer tried to reassure him again that Bawri had moved on and to forget her but Vir shut him up by making it clear that his advice was not needed.
Vir watched Bawri as she got off the stage to go sit down on her table. As she did so, a waiter bumped into her and spilled the drinks on her dress. Daksh immediately told off the waiter and Dhwani made her way to her room to change. Vir smirked as he recalled paying the waiter to spill the drinks on her. Vir got his chance and pounced on it. He excused himself and made his way towards Dhwani’s room, which he now knew where it was.
—---------------------------
Dhwani entered her room and was looking to change out of her outfit as soon as she could. She was drenched. She tried not to be angry at the waiter, after all it was an accident and hence why she tried to stop Daksh from firing the waiter. She quickly changed into another outfit when there was a knock on her door. She learnt from her earlier mistake to not assume it to be someone else so asked 'Who is it?' When no one responded, she thought no one was there, so started getting ready to leave when there was another knock. Dhwani opened the door to find Mukhiji at her door. Before she could even say anything, Mukhiji just waltzed straight into her room.
Dh: What are you doing?
Vir: What does it look like? I've come to talk to you.
Dh: We have nothing to talk about. So please leave.
Dhwani opened the door for him to leave, however Mukhiji instead started approaching her. Dhwani started making a backward approach and ended up closing the door behind her. With her back to the door and Mukhiji in front, Dhwani tried going sideways to leave but Mukhiji blocked her off with his arms. Dhwani closed her eyes for a moment to calm her fast beating heart due to the close proximity. Vir smirked knowing the effect he still had on her. He then raised his hand to move a few strands of hair behind her ear. Bawri still had her eyes closed as he did this and so he took his time just looking at her. Eventually she opened her eyes to find him staring.
Dh: Are you done?
Vir: Huh? Oh yes.
Dh: Then can you let me go.
Vir moved back to let Bawri free from where he had blocked her in.
Vir: Tell me something. How can you get engaged?
Dh: What's it to you?
Vir: It matters to me very much.
Dh: Why? It's my life. I'll choose who I want to spend it with.
Vir: I know but you're making a mistake. You'll regret this.
Dh: Why do you care? Also how is marrying Daksh a mistake? He's young, rich, handsome, and loves me so much. Who else would I choose? ...You?
Vir didn't answer.
Dh: Are you jealous? Surely you didn't think I'd choose to attach myself to you?
Dhwani started laughing.
Dh: Why would I? You're old enough to be my father!
The longer Bawri was laughing, the angrier Vir got. He couldn't tolerate someone mocking him, even if it was Bawri.
He grabbed her by the arms.
Vir: Are you done?
Dh: What? Did that hurt your ego? It's nothing but the truth.
Dhwani tried getting out of Vir's hold but he wouldn't let go.
Vir: What about your truth huh? Tell me, does it not affect you when I'm close to you. When I touch you?
Vir touched her cheeks. Dhwani closed her eyes in reaction and as always, felt that tingling sensation.
Vir: Do your heartbeats not get faster when this old man is near you? Deny it all you like. I know you don't love Daksh. You love me. Tell me you don't love me. Look into my eyes and tell me.
Dhwani moved her eyes away. She couldn't say it and Vir knew he won. Dhwani pushed him off and got out of Vir's hold.
Dh: Well it doesn't matter!
Dhwani started walking towards the door when Vir pulled her back.
Vir: Of course it matters. You love me.
Dh: So what? Now please let me go. Daksh is waiting for me.
Hearing Daksh' name made Vir angry. He was no one to come in between Vir and his wife. Vir grabbed hold of Bawri's face and put his mouth on hers. Dhwani didn't react at first, she was in shock and just stood there. Mukhiji asked for entry to her mouth with his tongue and before she knew it, she opened her mouth and responded to him. It was as if time stood still for those few seconds. It was a quick moment of ecstacy. As soon as it came, the moment was gone as Dhwani realised what was happening. She pushed Vir off of her. Vir stood there with confidence, knowing that he had won. They were both breathing heavily. Mukhiji had her lipstick on her mouth and was staring at her. She placed a finger on her lips. This was what she had been wanting for so long. She had no control over her own actions as she walked up to him and pulled his face down to hers.
Their second kiss was a lot slower and not as passionate as the first. They both were tasting each other and taking their time. Dhwani had her hands on Mukhiji's hair, keeping his head in place. Vir had his hands on her neck. Slowly, Dhwani moved her hands from his hair down to the collar of his kurta, holding it tight, not wanting to let go.
Eventually they both let go to catch some breath. Vir leaned down and placed his forehead against hers both breathing heavy. Dhwani still had her hands on his kurta and that's when she noticed the ring on her finger.
Shocked at her actions, Dhwani slowly started taking steps back. Again, she placed her hands on her lips. What am I doing? This is wrong.
Vir noticed Dhwani's reaction and instantly knew what she was thinking. He walked towards her and cupped her face. She just looked at him, as if she was lost.
Vir: Baw... Dhwani. I know what you're thinking but we did nothing wrong. We both have feelings for each other and we acted on those feelings.
Dh: I'M ENGAGED!
Dhwani shouted, pointing at her ring finger.
Dh: I just got engaged not half an hour ago and here I am cheating on my fiancé!
Vir: But you don't love him.
Dh: So! That doesn't justify what happened. This is wrong.
Vir: Look, maybe what happened shouldn't have happened today. Not on the day of your engagement. The timing is wrong but not what is between us. I should have acted earlier, never allowed it to get this stage.
Dhwani was at this point panicking.
Dh: This is wrong. I need to speak to Daksh now. I need to be honest with him. If he doesn't want to be with me anymore, that's fine but I need to tell him. Then I'll leave that decision on him.
Dhwani was making her way out of the room when Vir stopped her.
Vir: Calm yourself. Yes, you need to speak with Daksh but first decide what you want.
Dh: I want Daksh to forgive me.
Vir: You still want to be with Daksh? Despite what happened now?
Dh: Yes. I can't lose him!
Vir: Look at me! You love me. How can you think of Daksh now? Think of yourself and what you want. For once think of yourself first, not Daksh and not Chandniji.
Dh: Yes, I love you but it doesn't mean we need to be together. I will not be your second choice.
Vir: Second choice? What do you mean?
Dh: I know you only like me because I remind you of your late wife. I heard you tell Chandni Di that you can never love anyone else.
Vir finally realised of her insecurities. No matter what he thought, for her, she was being compared to Bawri. Despite being the same person, she was unknowingly competing with herself.
Vir: Look at me Dhwani. I said that to Chandniji because I didn't want her to get false hopes but I didn't mean for you to hear that.
Dh: But it's true.
Vir: Yes it's true. I loved my wife very much and I always will but that doesn't mean, I will not live my life. I know that the past is in the past and I now want to move on, with you. I feel after meeting you, that I can live my life to the fullest. Be happy, no longer live in guilt. I love you Dhwani.
Dhwani started crying. Finally hearing the words she wanted to hear for so long from Mukhiji. He loves me. She hesitantly put her hands on Mukhiji's face, who also had tears in his eyes. She brought his face down to hers. Forehead to forehead and wiped his tears.
Dh: I love you too.
They stayed like that for a few moments. Dhwani's happiness knew no bounds. She got the man of her dreams and he was with her now. What else could she want?
Finally the both of them let each other go and got their emotions in check. Dhwani knew what she had to do now.
Dh: I still need to speak to Daksh. I need to end this engagement. So I can be free to be with you and also so Daksh can be free too. I may not be in love with him but I love him. Him and Chandni Di are the only family I have.
Vir: I understand Bawri. They were there to take care of you when I wasn't. You're alive because of them and I'll always be grateful. Take your time. I'll wait as long as I have to.
Vir then placed a chaste kiss on her forehead and pulled Dhwani into a hug. He didn't want to let her go. He had finally won her over but he knew the timing was wrong. If God permitted, he would very soon have her back in his life for good.
Dh: Mukhiji?
Vir: Hmm.
Dh: We should get out of here.
Vir: You're right.
They both made their way towards the door when Mukhiji stopped Dhwani.
Vir: We shouldn't both leave together. It'll raise questions. I'll go first. You leave a few minutes after me.
Dhwani nodded and watched as Mukhiji left the room. She placed her hands over her dress to make sure it was fine, then fixed her hair and then her makeup. She felt like they would give away what had happened but once she knew everything was perfect. She counted five minutes after then made her exit from the room. However as she left, she was unaware of somebody's eyes on her. Someone who had seen both her and Mukhiji leaving the room.
