Part 8- The court
Imlie went to court alone even thougn Aryan offered to pick her up. She was petrified, she needed to be calm but she wasnt able to control it. She will have to go through again and again until she gets them sentenced.
Aryan was there standing with police officers while the two men in question were in the witness box. The judge was an elderly man , as everyone sitted after he arrived the proceedings begun.
The rapists lawyer started with defense, he asked her basic question about where she is from and what does she do in city. “So tell me Miss Imlie why were you willing to go on ride with two men? You knew when the cab arrived?”
Imlie was shocked,but answered “Yes”
“Point to be noted, koi bhi sharif ghar ki ladki itni raatko kabhi bhi do aadmi ke saath nai jayegi” he faced the judge
“But” Imlie said but she got interuppted
“Par kya Imlie ji, aap khud gai iska matlab aap khud consent dia”
“Objection, defense lawyer is crossing his limits” Imlie lawyer Ms Chandel stated.
“Sustained”
“Ms Imlie, aap ek garib ghar se aati ho correct?”
Imlie nodded
“Is seher mein paise kamaney aai just like any others ?”
“Yes”
“To phir paiso ke liye aap kuch bhi karegi correct”
“NO! Mein apna kaam karti hoon and un paiso mera guzara chal jata hai”
“Mumbai is expensive city Ms Imlie, mere clients ne ye statement dia tha ke us raat unhone ek prostitute ko uthaya tha. Exactly address jaha aap bhi mojut thi” Imlie was shaking and holding the witness box tightly, her nail digging in.
“Thats not true. I needed to go home it was late and i didnt want to wait so i took that cab .” She said stuttering .
“My lord, please note all my points and my colleagues can start her proceedings”
“Sir, we have all the evidence that she was raped, i have put the reports from doctor infront you.” The judge read it silently and noted down.
“I want to ask these rapists”
“Excuse me they are not convicted , please dont call clients rapist” defense lawyer said.
“Order Order”judge demanded
“Sorry my lord” he sat
“The suspects, i would like to ask them some questions” by now Imlie was numb she didnt want to hear anything. Is this how far people can go? No remorse, they are smirking and staring at her with those eyes. She looked down, her lawyer presented valid questions and they had answers for everything. They said they dropped her off, after that she might have gotten raped but it wasnt them. The judge said that they proceed next week. Imlie was leaving the court, when Aryan grabbed her hand, “Leave me please” she said sadly almost quivering.
“Look at me, dont listen to them at all.. you will get justice belive me! This was going to happen i had warned you things they might say “ he looked at her softly, brushing her hair off her eyes. She looked up and shuddered and turned back to leave. Aryan didnt go after her as much he want take her in his embrace and tell her everything will be alright.
Aryan went to Kajal house, and confronted her about going to Imlie house and emotionally blackmailing her.
Kajal started her emotional drama again and said tomorrow is her birthday and she doesn’t want to be upset , and she did all that because she loves him.
“Kajal would you be happy with me if i dont love you? Think about it! Zidd chodo apni”
She came and hugged him “Please Aryan”
He pushed her gently away, “Kajal enough is enough” he said frustrated. She stopped crying and then said , “Please atleast till my bday tomorrow be with me . I dont want anything else . Please please” Aryan sighed, “Fine” the least he could do be kind, after all he did led her on and he broke up with her badly.
“Thank you” she try to hug him but he kept his hand.
“I am tired i gotta go” he left from her house and went straight to the station to give some beatings to those rapists.
Imlie was in the room, bawling her eyes out. She misses her mom, the warmth of her lap - everybody left her - her family who she needed the most. Just then she got called from an unknown number, she picked up mindlessly.
“Hi Imlie, This is Kajal am having party tomorrow please come!! I would love to have you” she said
“No Kajal thanks for inviting. I dont like social events “
“Please please its my birthday!! “ kajal pleaded.
“Ok” Imlie said and hung up.
What does it matter anyways? She will got for half hour and leave. Anyways she needs a change.
The court room scene was heartbreaking 🥺. My heart goes out to Imlie as she is fighting this all alone without any support which is not an easy task!
Why do I get the feeling that Kajal called Imlie just so she can show her how much Aryan loves her and only feels sorry for Imlie?! If that's the case,I wish it goes against Kajal because hurting a person when they are at their lowest is the worst form of a human being!
