The world we live in is now free of such shackles. While people engage even in mindless, emotionless one night stands and couple usually break off the physical barrier even before marriage(as also we were told Shivi and akki did, also sara and her ex in the show), then I guess it’s only sensible to show a couple married and staying together… and not just any couple— a very attractive man and a very beautiful woman… consummating because they felt physically attracted to each other. True they also had admitted in their hearts loving each other by then. But in the show the couple didn’t know at that time if the other one loved them or not… so they just got close due to physical attraction and that’s fair enough… also very modern and very open-minded— much like the novels we get today. A book series called “Crossfire” had the hero confessing his love in third or fourth book out of five books, and, by that time they have had already had sex several times. In another book, “Driven”, the hero confesses of his love in the last book. In another series “Hudson”, the hero admits his love in the third book out of four, after several seasons of love making, make out and even a nasty breakup. So that’s basically normal for couples… to have sex before confessing love and I kinda appreciate the mediocre team of writers for this show to at least have shown this open-minded concept of emotional physicality before love confession

I couldn't agree with you more 👍🏼 Its not mandatory to be in love to indulge in a physical relationship. In most of the arranged marriages post the wedding, you do not court your own wife, take her to candle light dinners, plan an elaborate confession and then consummate your marriage. Even though RaYa had not confessed their love, they had come to respect each other. They had begun to understand the other without the need to explain themselves. Given the scenarios under which they married, I understand they wouldn't have consummated right away because that comfort was not there. They were two strangers forced into a marriage so that their siblings could get married. They established their boundaries well ahead in advance. One thing I liked is, after the wedding they did not sleep on separate beds unlike what we have seen and continue to see in many shows today. They accepted they r husband and wife and shared the same bed but of course there was this distance between them that was bridged only after they understood each other and accepted in their hearts that this marriage is no longer bound by their siblings. It is real and they had acknowledged each other as their respective partners.

@bold - bang on! that was what I loved about this show too!

@bold: I agree! “Tum bed pe so jao, I’ll take the sofa” is cliched n unrealistic

That was really funny considering there was ample room on those beds for four people to sleep 🤪

I loved all your replies on this post. What I understood was..though there was no love confession raya had understood each other's feelings recently. That led to physical attraction and consummation. As you said there was one more scene which showed their intimacy.

I basically agree with Beyond Horizon. And I did think the deed had been done on the (2nd) kangan-daan day. Never knew it had become such a big deal on bird.

I don't know why confession (or lack thereof) is treated like a chastity belt in itv. Love was implied, admitted, and accepted, and in rl it's not even a prerequisite.

What's so surprising about Priya's awkwardness? She's a closed-in individual, and I'd have been surprised if she didn't react as she did. What happens in the heat of the moment and reactions in the aftermath are not always in sync. She wasn't regretting anything, just uncomfortable at facing Ram after the night. She's still feeling her way, still fighting demons, particularly Mahendra Sood's implanted words. There's something called the imposter syndrome, and her telling Ram that she doesn't want to disappoint him seems to me an indication of her experiencing that. Why is a natural act such a big deal for itv viewers? It makes for moronic months when a couple lives together but are sooo chaste--THAT should evoke ridicule. I'm actually glad they broke this trope. This was actually so refreshing.

Yes, they need to talk more, and they'll get there. Comfort levels have increased; even Priya is opening up. Ram is anyway ever-ready, and, IMO, hesitant only in response to his intuition of Priya's feelings and her mistrust of lovey-dovey stuff, as well as the unsureness that arises with someone you can't totally predict.

My real grouse is that Priya needs her bite back. She was a one-of-a-kind on itv. From what I've seen recently, she's just unremarkable.

I started watching the show only recently and I saw a few episodes in the start and few in between and now I am watching the on air ones. When I first saw the initial episodes they were drafted well but now I understand what the viewers mean when they say the show is not sequenced logically. Priya once tells to herself that if Ram were awake she would express her feelings but when Ram is confessing he loves her loud and clear, she changes the topic. And the issue with VK's death - Ram got a call to identify the body in the morgue room and in another scene he is called to accident spot. What shoddy writing is this? And what happened to Mythri? And where is Brinda? Ram's friend circle is so amazing and while the main focus needs to be on RaYa, they should utilize the other characters too to push RaYa's story forward. I loved Adi and Brinda, especially Brinda. She is such a lovely friend. But she is not to be seen these days. And y is Akshay still staying with the Kapoors? Even after the MU was sorted? He seemed to have a lot of self respect. What happened to that? And in the first episode, Sara tells Priya that she needs to take care of Chintu and I can assume she was talking about her son Ishaan. But if Chintu aka Ishaan was staying in Mumbai at the start of the story, how come he has been in Delhi all this while? This is so confusing.

Don't even talk about consistency yaar, it's as if they change their plot every day

VK's day of death - 6th June 2007 - has been revised so many times!!!

Everyone thought Mahendra Sood is the killer but they suddenly introduced an entirely unnecessary character and made him the killer instead (and MS the delegator)

They've gotten lost in the mystery they created.

About characters - they come and go as they please. Some functions has Maitrey, sometimes she doesn't exist at all. Priya had a friend Twinkle who's now MIA 🙄

The actress who plays Brinda has left the show, so they'll bring back another actress (presumably) if they decide to show that character again.

Akki was dying to be an actor, now he doesn't care about it and doesn't audition for anything, just stays at KM with Shivi (Nandini talked it out with Meera Ma who had no qualms about Akki staying at KM so that's where he lives now)

In short, sab kuch hodgepodge hai.

They had already accepted each other as husband and wife. Ram being a gentleman would never have exercised his rights as a husband to get intimate. He gave Priya her space and when she took one step forward he gave in to his passion. Ram and Priya are alike and also two different people at the same time.

They are different coz their upbringing was different. Priya had a loving family but she saw her mother break down before her. She lost her faith in men after her father betrayed them and it must not have been easy coz up until that point her father was the only man she had in her life and for her to breakdown this bad, she must have loved him more than any of her sisters. And his betrayal affected her the most. Coz I remember Sara saying that all Priya ever craved for was acceptance and love from her father. After Meera broke down, Priya had to get strong and the only way she could do that was by suppressing her own emotions and becoming practical and cold from the outside. She was shattered from within but she did not want to express her feelings and cry her heart out coz she wanted to be the shoulder her mother could cry on. Had she let her emotions out, her mother would have had to take on that role. Priya made that sacrifice for her mom - she trapped her pain inside her so that her mother could let her pain out and feel free. Unfortunately for Priya she let go of all the hopes, feelings tied to happiness. Happiness was a word that never existed in her dictionary. And then comes Neeraj. I am sure Neeraj never gave her even 1% of love Ram did but that was enough for Priya to see a glimmer of hope but even that shattered after he dumped her and married her younger sister. Priya was sad but she was already used to being betrayed. She might not have had high expectations from Neeraj coz she could forgive Mythri and move on in life. She never thought someone like Ram would enter her life. All along she was used to fighting her battles on her own. Her family loved and supported her but they never fought them for her. But with Ram by her side she is no longer alone when she faces her father or anyone else. He is her shield and this is overwhelming for her. It took a lot of time for her to accept this coz she was simply not used to it. She cannot be romantic bcoz all those feelings develop at a certain stage and that too when ur heart is free of other burden. That was never the case with Priya. I don’t think even when she was with Neeraj she might have been romantic and that was probably one of the reasons that Neeraj dumped her coz he wanted a girlfriend who was cheery, chirpy and romantic, a girl who would want to look beautiful to be by his side and make efforts to look beautiful. Ram on the other hand never expected Priya to wear dresses that make her look beautiful. He always found her beautiful even in her simple kurtis and he made her let down her hairs bcoz he found them beautiful. Even though Priya was adamant about keeping her hair tied up all the time, she lets them down coz she knows Ram loves it. She feels revered when she looks into his eyes and sees herself. This is an alien feeling and she is still processing it. She loves Ram maybe even more than he loves her but she cannot bring herself to express it. However she finds other ways to express it by caring for him.

Ram on the other hand grew up being loved by his parents and after his mom passed away, Nandu must have loved him too. Fake or not it didn matter to Ram. He always received it in some form or the other. As a child he never had any emotional baggages coz his father loved him a lot. And he was surrounded by friends who loved him. He was a die hard romantic at heart. He expresses his feelings openly and doesn’t shy away from them. True Vedika betrayed him by marrying Shashi but the love he felt for her was so immense that he never saw it as a betrayal. For him it was a choice Vedika made and even though it broke his heart he accepted it gladly. And at the same time his father passing away made him take on another role where he had to build a business empire to secure his family. That became his priority and he had little time to spare for family squabbles. He might have been ignorant about his step family but they too were cautious about treating him with respect. They knew he was their sone ka anda denewala murgi and they always pretended to love him. He had no reason to doubt their love. For him Nandu loved him despite being a step mother and he thought of this as a favour she bestowed on him. It is a different matter that for Nandu he is just a cash cow. And in comes Priya. She is no softie. She calls a spade a spade but even though Ram never prioritised his own feelings, she does it for him. Ram is only used to being a necessity for his family to fulfill their own desires. He never spared a thought about his own feelings but Priya is fiercely protective about him. She stands up to his family for his sake and does not hesitate to lay her life down for him. And being a romantic as he already is, Ram falls hard for her and he has no qualms about admitting them coz he has always been expressive.

What is common between them is their ability to keep others happiness above their own and this is a fundamental trait that has deepened their bond over the days and will continue to do in future.
OMG, can’t believe I wrote this long post 🤣

Perfectly said 👏 Priya is a refreshing change indeed where ITV heroines are concerned.

It is weird that Varun was involved. Makes no sense. Maitrey is on and off - I guess the actress is ok with it coz she is acting in another Ekta serial. The actress playing Brinda quit? 😲 She was doing so good but good for her. She hardly had any scenes. There is no mention of Twinkle. She was the only friend Priya had before marriage and post marriage it was Brinda.

Its annoying how parallel characters are reduced to furniture in the show. That way, the only show of Ekta's I like is PKYEK coz it was the only one where most of the characters got its due.
