Yesterday's episode exposed Sohni to the real world. Raju the union leader misbehaved, intimidated and touched her and Sohni reacted like any other woman would. She gave him a tight slap! Is this the solution? It wont take long for Raju who is bigger, bulkier and more aggressive to subdue Sohni in every way. Will women ever be able to perform in a world so entrenched in the belief that they are only meant to exist in the confines of the home and hearth?
We all experience this aspect of life in our neighbourhood, workplace and anywhere for that matter, but in different proportions. Can education and bookish knowledge change this outlook? I dont believe so. The change must begin at home with respect between spouses, siblings and the family.
"The old order changeth yielding place to new. God manifests himself in many ways lest one order should corrupt the world", thus spoke King Arthur!
I am hoping that Sohni with her inherent strength is able to overcome this persecution of her person and emerge as a stronger woman. In this ardrous journey from being daughter, student and a mere girl, I pray she finds a strong man. A man who understands, supports, loves her enough to permit her the freedom/space to find her bearings, and encourages her to fight. Its not hard you know, there are such men in this world. Only they are not easy to find!
This topic has probably been discussed at length elsewhere, but where better than our very own Grahasti forum which is growing by the day to include such interested and willing members. Come on friends, lets give this our two cents of thought and share our experiences.
