The scene where Imlie was on the phone with Meethi, crying out to be punished and not noticing her mother was beside her was so heartbreaking. It was purely a mother-daughter scene and I'm glad they kept romance out of it until after the hug.
The parallels to the fake shaadi hug with Narmada, where Aryan was about to lose his mother's confidence but Imlie lied for him and now this, where Aryan reunited the mother-daughter duo and they have another group hug. It's beautiful but it makes me wonder, how is it that with each step forward, they take two steps back? In the first hug too, they were unable to hold each other's hands and here too, they let go, slowly but surely, unable to understand what togetherness means.
Imlie insists her mom made the right call, implying that Aryan is right for her and she is recognizing her feelings but whenever someone calls her out on them, especially in front of Aryan, she becomes so puzzled or shocked (her mouth gaping open). Likewise, Aryan becomes stiff, unable to accept the possibility of reciprocation.
The transition from emotional to banter is seamless - I'll never stop being amazed, with them talking over each other.
Thank you makers for showing that fashion (or colours) after losing someone doesn't mean your grief isn't real. For some, wearing white or grey colours is an expression of how they're feeling empty inside but for others, it can be a societal formality or a hurdle in moving forward, with the memories of their loved one intact.
