This is such a progressive scene of any growing relation. Even in first marriage also you should accept your partner with all his/her flaws.
Here This is a first base of successful foundation of second marriage or late marriage is to not judge your partner plus accept him/her with their complete past... when you are stepping into new relation, you are not allowed to judge your partner even accept it fully and brace yourself to deal with it future. One, it won't hurt you. Second, most important make your partner to shed that guard of past and make him/ her live forward. The fear will be gone and more trust and companionship will build. However, the key element missing in the conversation is a plan to handle this going forward. Their paths have now crossed and going to be one.
It is high time she comes up with a plan on how to navigate forward along with her past. In fact, this conversation of how to move forward and slowly wean off the past is a must. I dont know why this obvious step isnt shown in the story.
Imagine, if he also revisited his past ( whatever that was) like she frequently does now?? What would she do? Is she also going to say....I know you had a past, that is okay. I am fine with it, you can visit them whenever you want. Sounds silly, right?
One thing I am glad was that his lecture was short compared to hers!
