So the dhol and bike is kind of a concept that women in Maharashtra do during Gudi Padwa - Maharashtrian New Year. They participate in Shobha Yatra. Women wear traditional saris, some even 9 yards, wear smashing glares, and ride bikes. This is kinda huge in Maharashtra. It looks something like this...

This was a bike rally in Nagpur in 2019
Thank you so much Nutty 🤗
I love learning about different cultures..
This is so unique...women wearing nauvari, glares & riding bikes !!
Shobhayatra is kinda emotion for so many ladies. I think they are drawing inspiration from that only. Abhi Gudi Padwa bhi hoke gaya na.
It started in Dombiwali, Mumbai Maharashtra around 20-25 years back.
A major road is closed off for procession, huge rangolis are made and then people turn up in traditional best.
This was initially ... then it started getting more detailed and traditional.
Nowadays theres a dhol tasha pathak... boys and girls drumming up the dhol (nasik dhol must be popular instrumental you guys have heard)

Then theres lejhim... kind off a like a cymbals... its coordinated dance movements to a specific rhythm...

In the same band, there would be someone who is hoisting a flag and also waving it to the beats..
Women riding bikes it a later addition but obviously looks stunning especially those riding bullets/harleys.
It goes on till mid noon and then ends... a beautiful sight to enjoy
A similar thing now happens on Diwali Padwa too....
Wow! So this shobhayatra was a mere 25 years tradition?
And it happens only in Mumbai..?

In our hostel, we used to put up that pot on a pole though...for gudi padwa 😊

Yes.. Gudi padwa used to be a homely affair...
Shobha Yatra is a tradition... But shobhayatra on padwa is new.
Started in Mumbai... Now happens all across Maharashtra and each city/town have now developed some unique characteristics.
Started in Dombivli because that is known as cultural capital of Mumbai... While Pune is cultural capital of Maharashtra.
Dombivli is also the second 100% literate city in India. First one is in Kerala.
