I want to add another scene here. I just browsed some of the WU threads around the time Aryan entered and Adilie got divorced. I found maximum people even few staunch Arylie supporters of today were criticizing Aryan for showing up at Tripathi niwas following Imlie and shouting at her to get in the car and leave with him. Since most of people who were watching that show at the time were long time viewers and many were biased towards Adilie, I can understand the pov that Aryan was being heavy handed in coming there at all for a mere employee and tenant. He was even crossing a line when he reached in pulled out the papers from the bag.
But since I watched this in a go and from only Aryan's entry, knowing how he will replace Aditya in the narrative, I could see that scene as how probably makers perceived it or might have tried to justify it. At the time they were still projecting him as grey and ruthless and probably using Imlie to hurt Aditya. But knowing him now as we do, we can justify his actions.
Audience till that point were shown Imlie's pain in loosing her BS. But what audience had missed was who was beside Imlie in every single one of those times when she was hurting the most. Aryan. He saw her crying looking at the storm, they had a emotional interaction in the rain. He was the one who saw her break down when her shadi ka jora got burnt. He was the one who Aditya thinks Imlie is cheating him with. His name is linked with Imlie in the papers. and most of all he has seen imlie break down on the bridge alone. After all that can we really say he was out of line or should not be there. He is unwittingly tied into the mess. He got involved and feels responsible for Imlie's safety because he has witnessed that none of her family members actually worry about her safety or well being. Also, his distrust for Aditya and his knowledge of his chaotic state of mind surely must have made it seem for Aryan that Aditya may hurt Imlie and lash out. They had crossed the employee Tenant /boss landlord line on the bRidge already. Aryan reaching into Imlie's bag I feel was Aryan losing his patience with Aditya. Sometimes, when a person is pushed so much with taunts that he losses his kool. Aditya's constant allegations, his article in paper and then Malini coming to his house saying the same must have finally hit a nerve for Aryan as well.
Whatever may be the reason, that scene remains on the most stellar scenes of the show and on ITV. Never have the modern ITV handled the leads breaking up so well. every actor was doing their part beautifully.
