In telugu its full of nepotism.but in other industries both star kids n non star kids are stars if their films become a big hit.outsiders are equally successful.

Can’t really talk south as a single entity but herz my thoughts

I mainly watched Telugu cinema growing up and it was ruled by nepotism…

Rana, prabhas, mahesh , ram charan , ntr Everyone came from a film family

The rumour is that Telugu is ruled by 4 major film families and they have monopoly on the theatres , news and tv channels and web sites too ..in my growing up years, all I saw was nepo kids is I can realise how strong the monopoly might have been back then

But I have to say, off late I have seen some positive outcomes aswell …a lot of these prod houses actively invest in new comers and make small budget movies alongside the big ones …like rana daggubati’s family owns a production house and in the past few years they have produced films with mostly newcomers (outsider Vijay deverakondas breakthrough happened through Pelli choopulu which was produced by Ranas dad..same with actor Nani’s debut - the guy from the original version of jersey)

Mahesh babu recently started producing films and his first production (that dosent star him) is for a non nepo guy adivi sesh who is making Major…

Allu Arjuns family owns a streaming platform called Aha which mostly has content from non nepo actors/ new comers in the form of shows/web series and direct ott release movies …not just heroes and heroines but it generates a lot of work for character actors too..

I think in general, they are a tad bit more inclusive of non nepo kids too…A listers usually attend the the upmcoming artists film launches or pre release events to draw more attention to the project …in general they seem to treat them well and call them on talk shows etc too…

Ofcourse allu made some idiotic statements defending nepotism claiming it was a ā€œservice to the audienceā€ and I’m sure there is a lot of silent elitism there too ….but atleast I see it improving from the past and they aren’t obviously bitchy to their non nepo counterparts …

Bollywood would always remain the "biggest" film industry in India, not because they're great but only because Hindi is the most spoken language here compared to other regional languages. The same way Hollywood would always remain the biggest in the world because English is widely known and recognised as a global language.

That's why regional movies making more money than Hindi films, in a country where obviously Bollywood has the biggest audience is questionable. You can't avoid it by saying, "Only n number of South films have made more money than Bollywood movies". Question should be why even one regional movie is able to beat all Bollywood films in India? If a Bollywood film somehow goes on to make more money than Avatar, then we Indians won't say it's not a big deal because all other top grossers are Hollywood films. Instead we would gloat about it Lol.

With KGF 2 all top 5 highest grossing films in India would be from South, none from Bollywood. Hindi dubbed version of Bahubali 2 has made more than any Bollywood film and now KGF 2 might do the same. So people can't even say now that Bahubali was just a fluke.

Bollywood doesn't understand it's audience and there's alot of untapped market which they just ignore , and that is the reason South films are able to break into North Indian territory. Bollywood movies still have the potential to record 4-5 Crore footfalls even in this age of piracy, but they can't because they just don't understand their audience.

South India had been making big budget extravaganzas with lots of vfx right from black and white era when CGI was unheard of. Pathal Bhairavi and Mayabazar were two such films. Both were made in Telugu and Tamil with a slightly different cast.

The Vfx were used to enhance the story telling just like the way Rajamouli uses them now.

It is only now it has become possible to make the film in one language and release it all over India.

South had superior technicians right from the beginning.

Saif Ali Khan playing Raavan is a big news now But the late NTR made a film with Raavan as the lead with himself playing the role way back in black and white era. That really was a radical move going by the content.

Rest of the India is getting exposure to the films made in south is the only new thing happening now.

Of course there were films which were remakes of Hindi too but they never ruled the box office .

It is just that " Bollywood thought themslves to be superior because their audience was bigger in terms of the no of people who watched their films.

Rajanikant and Kamalhasan are known across the country for their contributions to the cinema. An autodriver even in the hinterlands of Cowbelt region will know about Rajanikant. They both may not have done too many films but they are well knnown

RGV's very first film Shiva featuring Nagarjuna is a big Pan India hit.

People like Sridevi had to come to Bollywood to gain national audience only because at that time this pan India concept wasn't a regular thing.

South India has always been making good films with concept had been making good use of technology.

Bollywood has woken up now.
