Cuz when I started following the hashtag on tt and them joined this forum, I was hit with anti-Malini posts. Yes, by then the kaand had happened and the damage was done. Unaware that they were divorced, I was curious as to why a "wife " would have to resort to such "tricks"..so I used to search for Malini posts on Tt. And then I find ppl saying she was "emotionally manipulative" from the start. I think one of the main differences that has blinded some from the loyalty factor/ wife sympathy...is that in Silsila, the doosri came into their lives after the marriage..plus she was the wife's best friend..so it was actually anger at the friend for betrayal foremost which turned into love & support for the wife...Here, even though Malini- Adi was already a thing..scenes weren't shown so that the audience could relate..plus add to it the religious symbolism like PD sindoor which Imlie got first.

See emotionally manipulative narrative of malini also I've only heard from adilie shippers so, I'll just say it's a perspective. Every viewer interprets scenes differently.

And sindoor symbolisms and all, well adilie were endgame before as told by Atif, but some things happened that made him change his mind.

@_amychoco_ -- what you are saying about the sindoor makes a lot of sense? maybe they saw Imlie as the wife because she was married whereas Malini was "just the girlfriend of 7 years" and okay to be dumped? I don't know -- If it is a long-term relationship which was leading to marriage, then it is a big deal. Whereas in Silsila, there was an actual wife as opposed to just a girlfriend?

Thanks for the tag @SundariP -- would not have been able to find the thread otherwise. But am glad to know that there were Malini supporters. Like you said, maybe it was just perspective from adili shippers. So perhaps the Malini supporters all left once adili ship started sailing?

Yes adilie being married here made a lot of difference viz a viz silsila narrative, because cultural acceptance for religious marriage is a big thing specially the audience being largely females with old school beliefs.

Most Malini supporters left after the molestation track

If we look at the story from the characters perspective, ideally Malini was wronged. And she didn't set out to be a vamp from Day 1 unlike many of Ekta shows. For that, I am glad. Why didn't she gather more support then? It comes down to bias...as do all our interactions. You have off screen hints and the religious symbolism, then toh Malini doesn't stand a chance. Whatever she did, even if good..ppl overlooked it. Her resorting to sexual assault didn't help her. Infact, she is being written off as a character.

Unfortunately, being the girlfriend isn't a big deal for the Indian audience as opposed to being the wife. But, a betrayal is a betrayal..that's my reasoning. The trust that you expected was broken. Yes, love happened.. you are moving on..and I am still here questioning my decisions and soothing my broken heart, praying for this ache to subside..That was one powerful scene in Silsila

Yep malini was not set out to be a vamp, she was a.... I can say insecure girlfriend who invested 7 yrs in her relationship only to have her bf turned husband tell her it's only friendship. And even then she tried to take it with a stride and move on but her mother didn't help matters made it worse. First her mom used her as a weapon to hold her husband into loveless marriage and then to avenge herself from her husband's mistress by weaponizing her again in breaking up adilie.

Whatever malini did, from molestation to attempted murder of Imlie was her choice and there's no defence for that, she is a criminal. But she was turned into one by situations and people in her life.

Yea, she was simply seen as the other woman and okay to be dumped I guess. That just makes me sad though on some level - why did viewers feel that way? Did they think it was her mistake to stick around for an indecisive man for so many years and she wasn't smart enough to reel him in? However, if you see it from Malini's perspective, then she definitely got screwed.

I think in some sense the makers got lucky in that more viewers didn't root for Malini. So maybe easier to turn Malini from just a one-note character to typical vamp / insecure villain later? I don't know -- I shouldn't say too much as I didn't watch from the beginning.

Yea, that is the part of the story I don't get -- how do you go from being a boyfriend of 7 years and then claiming "no it was just friendship"??? That should have been explored more and explained better. Because it just sounds like he was dating in super casual way with no heart while Malini got confused and thought a short-term fling as more. 🤷‍♀️

I was one of those people who didn't care either way and was simply watching as timepass -- I actually disliked Mauli more than Nandini. 🤷‍♀️ I thought they didn't write the falling out of love or why he was unhappy in the marriage really clearly. So it just looked rather flaky when he fell in love -- many felt that he fell in love with her because of kheer and her dancing 😂. It wasn't clear what drew him to Nandini -- I felt that us viewers dissecting the drama had a better read than the writers. 😅 However, the actors were good and so it meant they elevated rather stupid material into better stuff.
