I think the attempt to whitewash will be as follows

Vanraj loved Poojas character with all his heart. But was forced to marry Anu by his family. Maybe babuji also forced him at that time. So he sacrificed his love for his family and became bitter

Therefore his treatment of Anu was just because of his frustration and he is as much a victim as Anu

Poor Vanraj is just mistaken and needs all love and sympathy

It will be a really pathetic whitewashing which is why i am sure makers will do it
