It was a diplomatic statement to minimize speculations I guess.

How can a divorced couple be friends!! I can understand those who have to be for the sake of kids. But these guys don't even have kids. So there was no chance for friendship... it was just to fool gullible fans into thinking the breakup wasn't very ugly, whereas every breakup is ugly.
