Kangana could definitely do black in her younger days imo, especially when you look how raw and brilliant she was in gangster and woh lame, something very melancholic about those performances. I agree on heroine stuff, kangana can't do those commercial films where rani was excellent but then rani is also limited in some aspects. I can't see rani pull off a shonali from fashion or do a datto, the way kangana transforms and disappears in a role, rani has only ever shown that in black, apart from it I don't see it. But she is a great actress and definitely in the top league as far as acting is concerned

Nobody here will admit that Kangana can act because they’re all fans of the opposite team. If you mention the national awards she has, they’ll say that she rigged them. But when nepo kids win awards it’s “well deserved and fair”

It takes a rare actor like Rani or Tabu to not have life experience and still pull off depth and pathos. Alia's lack shows in Gangu, so the question of her doing something as hefty as Black doesn't even come up. Forget something like Chandni Bar.

Gangu Bai is a mainstream Bollywood movie with all its tricks. There is close to zero honesty in story telling. Alia was good only in parts even there. She's going to remain just that if she starts believing her own PR.

Kangana is limited to Bollywood tropes just as Alia is. Thalaivi was an insult to Jayalalitha. There is a reason it flopped even in Tamil Nadu.

Kangana could never do a Black the way Rani did. Because Kangana is always Kangana playing a part. She thinks she is a Bollywood star, and it shows on screen. Rani was the character.

Thalaivii flopped on BO because it had terrible marketing and released in single theatres only without multiplexes cause of 2 week OTT window. Also, the film was boring tbh, but kangana as jaylalithaa was far from an "insult to jaylalithaa". She did justice to her and there were many scenes where she even resembled her. She got good reviews and praises from even shubhra gupta and baradwaj rangan who are arguably the best critics we have today, in fact tamil version had better reviews than hindi one. And mani ratnam's classic iruvar on the same subject was even bigger BO flop, does that mean it was a joke?? Since when BO equals to good acting?? Thalaivii had great performances from both arvind and kangana. And when has rani fully disappeared in a character apart from black?? Kangana has done that again and again with her roles, she is infact one of the few who doesn't have any vanity onscreen and isn't afraid to look ugly or even unlikable, how is she always wanting to be a star? She was so good in TWMR that many people didn't even realise it was the same actress playing two different roles

Gangubai was very commercial and Alia did not portray the ethos and depth that a Tabu had in Chandni bar or Seema Biswas displayed in Bandit Queen.

Rani in Black was another level, even with bad characterization Rani is brilliant.

Alia has done author backed roles including Highway, Raazi and Gangubai but the emotional part was only good in Highway, Raazi and Gangubai which had to evoke pathos and sadness was just missing.

In fact even Kiara break down in Shershah was terrific I felt her agony.
