Barring his one-liners on Akshu jaap, it's difficult for me to see any humor in the characterization of Harshvardhan Birla. He might not be physically abusive but IMO psychological abuse is far worse because there are no wounds or scars visible on the outside even as the victim is systematically stripped and slashed on the inside.
That said, I have a feeling that the makers are trying to tone down his behaviour and nature. It could be because the viewers are more accepting him with that humorous touch (w.r.t Akshu jaap and his equation with Manish) and at some point in future, Akshu is supposed to mend the fences between the father and son. Mending would be difficult if he is continued to be shown as he had been in the initial episodes. Then Akshu would be bashed for defending / having a soft corner for an abuser, not to mention addressing such a person as papa. Remember in Tilak, Akshu says - Abhi ki khushi Manjari aunty mein hain, Manjari aunty ki aap mein aur AAP KI UNN DONO MEIN. That's actually not a fact if you go by the initial episodes. So somewhere along the way, the makers are toning him down, showing him as a father who wants love from his son and is jealous of his wife and Akshara because they have Abhi's love while he doesn't - instead of a man who is an arrogant a***h***.
So if we see today's scene as Harsh from initial episodes, it is another form of abuse he'd dished out for his wife. And if we see it as makers toning him down, then it is a guy who wants the love his son gave his mom. If he doesn't get it, he feels like snatching it for himself.
Kuch zyada lamba explanation hogaya lagta hain 😆
