So what's the deal with Devdutt Patnaik? Is his stuff just completely inaccurate? I watched his series on Netflix and enjoyed quite a bit of it - am I now just going around with a whole bunch of misconceptions in my head?
Devdutt interprets what might have happened and claims it as fact in his books. He also includes stories from folklore.
He has unnecessarily hailed Karna as a hero in his interpretation of Mahabharat.
Mr Pattanaik does not know Sanskrit but claims to have expertise in things written in Sanskrit. Those who read his book are incapable of making their own conclusions, so they simply accept what he says.
The point is that when it comes to religious texts or mythology ( using his words), it's always recommended to read and interpret them yourself. If necessary, seek the help of a guru. Religious books teach humans morals through their texts. By reading someone else's interpretation, our minds are diverted from reality. It defeats the purpose of reading.
Those who still choose to read interpretations should read it as literature.
As for shows like Mahabharat Ramayan and Mahadev, if you're watching it, see it as fiction, if you want factual information, pick up an original book(not an interpretation).
My friend, if you are reading or watching his work, you probably have a lot of misconceptions.
