I've been rereading Persuasion and finally started Rebecca yesterday 😁.. Also a romance called Mooncaller😆

No, I haven't. I enjoyed the Pride and Pejudice one with her though.

Rebel Sultans. 😁 It is written by Sasi Tharoor's protégé. So, I was a fan and had a huge crush on the author because he used to write these columns on history in The Hindu and live mint. And his first book was majorly hyped and i bought both. And Ivory throne did give me a well researched chronological account of Travancore kingdom but most of it read like a gossip column. I mean he writes really well. But the uncritical approach made it look like it was his love letter to the regency queen and I was deeply disappointed with him pandering to the royal family. So, Rebel Sultan is giving similar vibes, but I would say I like it better than Ivory Throne.

And people will disagree with me I am sure because he won the yuva Kendra sahitya academy puraskar for Ivory Throne and Netflix even bought the rights to make a series out of it.

Lol. As always, I have written an unnecessary essay. Forgive me. 😨

Importantly, I am only two chapters in, and it is right now focused on the Vijayanagara empire. And the Deccanni sultanates are only beginning to get explored. I realise this is what I should have typed. 😆

Love your "essays" 😛 they give so much information in few lines.

I haven't read any of his work, he has become quite renown..must check him out. I'm wary of these new historians writing in English because there tends to be a bias in their telling mostly. But they're easy and way more interesting to read.

Hey Indira, what's happening with Ballika vadhu2? Is it really going to wrap up or continue on OTT? Been following it loosely and it's not bad. I like Anandi but sometimes it seems they're sketching her too much like Naira.. I really liked Anand till he proposed to Anandi on the same day that she finally got her child marriage annulled. That was so insensitive! And when I was just forgetting it and being drawn again by their chemistry, he's gone and proposed to Ishana just so he can ascertain Anandi's feelings for him. And all the rasams are also going on.. It reminds me of our Jija!

Yes. I agree.

The colonial hungover is very glaring in the way he writes. And obviously he does call out British for not understanding Indian culture. Yes, I actually put him on a pedestal before I read any of his books. And first 5 chapters of Ivory Throne was good, but after that it gets really bad and I finished it only because I took it as a chore. 😅

But I have to say, the introduction of Ivory Thrown blew me away.
