My most favorite unputdownable book was Amitav Gosh's Ibis trilogy, but it is not really light reading I guess.

But then A Suitable Boy was light reading and I really liked it but is some 1000 pages long. 😆

I'll check it out, thanks. I read A Suitable Boy a few years ago and didn't really like it. I did like An Equal Music by Vikram Seth though.

I am obsessed with Indian history. So I love reading historical fiction. And there is this fascination with post independent India which is what I liked about A Suitable Boy. It mostly paints a very glorified picture, so it isn't a great book.

But I have no words for Ibis Trilogy. It blew me away with the amount of research that went in and also loved the story. 😍

You might not find it that great, but it's an absolute favorite of mine. 😆

Yeah. I have always found I like the original version better. Whether It's any language. Other ones doesn't feel as organic.

So, Daksha is an ardent devotee of Lord Vishnu. And Vishnu is always pleasant, adorned in jewelleries and you have to perform specific rituals to please him and all that. Where as Lord Shiva is a sanyasi who basically just wears leopard skin and has a snake around his neck and lives in forest. He is known for his anger. He is also known for being easily pleased. He is known as Bholenath because he listens to everyone who calls upon with utmost devotion, no need for special rituals. He also adorns himself with ashes from the cremation grounds. And he is surrounded by his ganas including bhootas, yakshas etc. So in that sense, he is not godly according to Daksha but a forest dwelling barbarian.
