I thought of writing my reviews/thoughts about old hindi movies that I am currently watching. I hope this helps you to choose these movies if you ever wish to give old cinama a chance.
Movie : Do Aankhen Barah Haath (1957)
Director : V Shantaram
The movie is about progressive a jailer who proposed the experiment of open prison and his request gets approved. He chooses 6 murdrers for this experiment where all of them lives away from town. The jailer wants them to work on the farm and make their own living. These culprits are not handcuffed and start living without any restrain.
The story seems simple but the underlined philosophy they address is complex and thought provoking. While watchign movie, I constantly asked myself do we need punishment or rehabilitation for the prisoners. Does everyoen deserve second chance? Should we get rid of capital punishment? The scenes between these prisoners and jailer are hear warming. The jailer is shown as an idealist who believes in good of the people, even the murderes. And the prisoners are humans with lot of flaws who make mistakes, at a times think about doing crimes yet show redemptive qualities. Direction is excellent. It reminded me of Seven Samurai. Some of the scenes like apperance from shadow seems to be inspired from Seven Samaurai as well.
I don't want to give much spoilers but my favourite scene is: " On first day of their open prison experiment these prisoners could not sleep without leg cuffs as they were used to this in the jail. So they ties their own legs with heavy weight and then sleep. They did not run away." This scene will aways stay with me. It tells so much about human psychology and effects of mental/physical restrains on our mind.
I read that the movie was inspired from real life story. Thee very popular "Aye Maalik Tere Bande Hum" song was from this movie. In my school we often used to sing this song.

yes Netflix is a saviour in that regard.
I am watching the blacklist now. Have you watched that ?
My cousin (the same who's been crushing over Damon from those days 😆) recommended the Blacklist!
What's your take on the show?

This movie sounds legit!
The original Anurag from KZK1 (Cezanne) and Saloni from Saat Phere (Rajshree) in a new Sony serial produced by Ekta! 😃
The extra p in the serial name makes it weird though!

Bold 1- Itna karo na mujhe pyaar with Pallavi Kulkarni I think (also an Ekta production!)
Bold 2- Didn't he essentially blackmail Prerna into marrying him and leaving Anurag in the original KZK by saying he'd destroy the Basu business?
