For me there are far bigger issues to fight about than this nonsense issue which holds no credibility.

Bro I'm far from an INC supporter myself but if India had been made a conservative Hindu theocracy back then in 1947 itself I highly doubt it would have been even as good as it is now, let alone anything better...

Various groups would have wanted out and demanded to separate, and the actual country itself (or rather what would have been left of it) would be terrible... like imagine letting ultra conservative religious figures/landlords of those days make all the rules... in the days when many believed in casteism, mistreatment of widows, all sorts of other bullshit...

The origins of those practices and their connection to actual religious texts are debatable but there's no denying that many people back than did propagate those things...

Hard-line religiously conservative countries rarely get very far, I can't even think of three examples of countries with such ideologies that are progressive/successful, excluding who basically just got lucky with petrol as India definitely does not come under that category.

Congress party may have slowly devolved into the mess it is today in the later years, but at that point in 1947 I really don't think there was much they could or should have done differently on the larger scale...

I agree with you on most of what you have said in this thread but I disagree with this comment. There is a big difference in how the religion of the majority is treated in India vs how it is treated in other countries. I grew up in Canada and the UK in the 90s. Christianity is the mainstay religion and it was ubiquitous part of the culture. Prayers in school, nativity pageants etc that most of us participated in. Even the UK parliament has bishops initiating the procedures etc. There are many things that are changing now in order to be more inclusive. Alabama dropped its ban on teaching yoga in schools but even now there is a caveat that you can't use the words namaste or chant etc in order to not offend the majority religion. However India also had a ban on yoga in schools but it was in order to not offend the minority religions. So I feel like its not comparable because the starting points are very different. Most people that move out of India make an effort to integrate into the local culture. But why does that mean you can't call out the inequality of the way India was partitioned and designed?

I've been talking about the way India was partitioned throughout. And I am of the opinion that because of Congress trying to appease the Muslims who decided to stay, we got different justice systems and preferential treatment of certain communities which led at least partially to the current state of things. Corruption became rampant. Nothing was working for a large chunk of the population.

I also disagree with the idea that BJP has done anything for India. They took advantage of existing problems and use them to maintain power. They use religion again and again to distract from problems. They in fact instigate problems.

I believe you misunderstood my point with re:NRIs.

They're not merely calling out the way India was partitioned, which I agree with.

There were a couple of people here who used that as a starting point. They were then clearly using Mughals and Brits to basically bash Muslims and Christians because *hey, it's true Mughals and Brits were invaders,* and therefore, Muslims and Christians...

You see where that's going? It is bigotry, plain and simple, using the ethnicity of the invaders as a smokescreen for hating on people who follow the same religion.

These same people are the ones who leave *harmless and welcoming* India and move to the Middle East and Christian majority countries to live among majorities of the same religions which are apparently terribly racist and bigoted. Which is why I call them hypocrites.

For them, India = Hindu. Sorry. India belongs to everyone of Indian ethnicity and nationality. SRK is not Pakistani or any other stani. These NRIs (including me) are less Indian than him. They don't have the right to claim he's less Indian or ask him to go to Pakistan.

Then there were the comments about Gandhi and the nonviolent movement and violent struggle being better to attain freedom. 😆 Gimme a break. Sardar Patel supported the Nazis! THE FRIGGING NAZIS! He might have done it under the principle of the enemy of my enemy is my friend, but THE NAZIS! And the Japs? My God! They were brutal to even the Chinese and the Koreans. What do these Sardar supporters imagine the Japs would've done to India had they actually managed to get through to Bengal?! Of all the dumb ideas to support, this had to be the dumbest. Join the more cruel masters!😆

And the people who support violence and bloodshed usually never volunteer their own blood. Since you're Canadian, you might be paying attention to the build up in Ukraine. The Cheneys and the Bidens aren't going to fight. It's the ordinary people. It's similar in India. The same NRIs who believe Indians should've fought are the ones who fled even an independent India.😆 But they're very quick to volunteer other people.

Anyway, that's it from me on the topic.

Also, I grew up in India. Hinduism is as ubiquitous there as Christianity is in the West, from schools which do Saraswati Pooja to Hindu customs in parliament. I don't have any peeves against it, though. Because majority culture will usually be followed. That's just the nature of humanity. As long as that doesn't get in the way of administering law equally for everyone, I'm good.

The India I knew and always referred fondly as my home, this isn't it. This isn't about judging the entire population of India. Its about how present day India is not what it used to be with the increasing propaganda. Alot of the 1% you speak of are people that sit in power today, hatemongering. Including the guy running the country.

Same.....

Sweethearts I posted two twitter accounts here...both elected BJP officials with 400000 + followers..also there are several verified accounts of BJP people on this nonsense....does that mean anything or are we going to keep blaming Gandhi, Nehru, Pakistan, SRK and SRK fans in that order for everything that is wrong with India right now.....

This reminds me of that incident in “Phir bhi dil hai Hindustani” when the two political parties wanted tv channels to blame the opposition for an unpleasant incident so the tv channel was confused which side to pick as he wanted to remain friendly with both, so he blamed “Foreign Intrusion” for it 🤣

Many of srks movies were way ahead of their time, are much more relevant now

Let me get this straight lol, according to you, the only reason BJP keeps winning is because Hindus hate Muslims? and that is the reason why they won with an even bigger majority in 2019, not because they've done anything, it's just Hindus hating Muslims. 😆

What does one have to smoke to come up with this chutiypa logic? 😆

There were BJP accounts with more than a million+ followers doing stuff this. They are also followed by Grandpa himself. There were right wing TV channels also pushing the narrative.

Here's one TV channel host who got egg on their face live:

There is nothing more shameless than minimizing what the ruling party is doing or even worse, blaming Pakistanis who had nothing to do with this at all. These tactics are a way to keep people as less aware as possible so you slowly keep pushing the boundary of what is allowed as part of public discourse. Make the water warmer and warmer slowly - everyone know what it leads to.

Desperately pretending this is just minor trolling already gives away what one's agenda is.
