You mean the decision to make India secular and not a Hindu country?
There wouldn't have been an India without.
Southern states are mostly Hindu, but they disagree quite a lot about how the religion is practiced. India also happened to have a sizeable Muslim population even after partition. Those regions would've demanded to be in Pakistan, too.
Not to mention what you would do with the people practicing minority religions? Tell them they're 2nd class citizens and still expect them to love the country, pay taxes, and fight for the country? Because when the country has one official religion, all other religions are considered less before the constitution.
In any case, apartheid regimes don't last long. But of course, that free speech guaranteed by current secular constitution means anyone can insist on apartheid.
if you mean the partition, I 100% agree. Religious bigots got their way, and India has been suffering ever since.
