Vasant Panchami, also called Saraswati Puja in honour of Maa Saraswati, marks the beginning of the spring season and is celebrated by people in various ways depending on the region. It is celebrated every year on the fifth day of the bright half of the Hindu calendar month of Magha, which typically falls in late January or early February.

The festival also marks the beginning of the preparations for Holi, which takes place 40 days later. It is considered the day that the mustard crop begins blossoming, thus the reason that many people wear yellow or orange outfits and offer yellow flowers during the puja. Yellow is also considered Maa Saraswati's favourite colour, which is another reason for the yellow shades of this festival.

In many parts of India, families mark this day by encouraging their babies to write their first words or by studying or creating music together. For 4 and 5-year-old children, Vasant Panchami is considered the day they begin learning. Many educational institutions arrange special pujas in the morning for Maa Saraswati. Additionally, poetic and musical gatherings are common in communities.

Vasant Panchami is also marked with kite flying and competitions. This is especially common in northern India and in west India, but you can see it all over India. In the Punjab region, Vasant Panchami is known as the Basant Festival of Kites and everyone from the young to the old gets involved in various kite competitions between neighbours to proper competitions.

However you may celebrate Vasant Panchami, it is a joyous occasion and a celebration of new and happy moments as the spring season dawns upon us.
On this beautiful day of Vasant Panchami, we, at Crazy Creatives, wish you all a Happy Vasant Panchami!
