I kind of have to disagree. I haven't honestly read famous five at all. Read few books of secret seven. I have no idea of Mallory towers or Nancy Drew books.

I started with regional literature. Lol, I am not boasting but I read Maxim Gorky's "Mother" in 4th standard and I understood nothing. 😆

I think my childhood reading was mostly Charles Dickens and it evolved from there. And a lot of regional literature and mythology books.

Yaar tumhari baat hi alag hai! As your erudite and wonderfully well-written thesis-in-the-making shows. 😊

nancy drew, famous five & diary of a wimpy kid were the books I mostly read during my middle school 😆And then to harry potter, then to some old classics which were anyways part of my course, & then the most dreaded of all Shakespeare 🤪

Hahaha. Not that different I guess. With all that reading of good literature, all of us are here watching this crap on TV. What does it say about us? At least we are not accepting of whatever they throw at us. At least, we are resisting and keep expecting better. Sigh!

I haven't thought about Enid Blyton books for years - no one I know has heard of them in the States. That's why I have such a strong nostalgic link between these books and childhood vacations in Delhi with my grandparents. I used to really enjoy them. What always weirded me out are Archie comics. No one in America reads those either and their vision of small town America is so unrealistic. There's a really dark TV version of Archie which basically portrays Riverdale as the most crime-ridden place in America and their take on the characters make Arohi look like a baby lamb!

This seems to be the trajectory for all girls who read: enid blyton.. Starting from those cute toy stories, then famous five, secret seven, mallory towers etc. on to nancy drew, hardy boys and then heavier books like the popular classics or just contemporary works of various genres based on each one's preference.

I love Shakespeare - he had such a wicked sense of humor. Why do you dread him?

Harry Potter is awesome - I remember being excited about Nagina and telling the kids in my class that was a Hindi word. And the Patil sisters - she was so inclusive😆
