I've had the honour and privilege to attend a workshop by Pt. Birju Maharaj years ago and it was once in a life time kinda moment. The way he taught us, the simplicity, perfection, the kindness in his voice! He asked a question and I answered it and he patted my head, saying you're a good dancer and you have great potential. 😭 Feels like a personal loss.

I have the certificate with his signature😭

I couldn't believe when I saw the news this morning. 💔

Such an honour!! I am so glad and happy for you.

Even though I am from his hometown I've never had the privilege to see him in person and it will forever remain in my heart as a regret.

It is indeed a terrible loss.

I still remember the days when all we had (in my learning days) was Doordarshan to get acquainted with Maharaj Ji and his disciples' performances and techniques. We used to sit for hours in front of an old TV, 40 people together and make notes/discuss about what more we can add to our art and wonder did he showcase again.

All comfort, dedication and pure respect towards our art and our gurus. ❤️

PS : I'm a Kathak dancer too Neha! Didn't know you were too. How many years have you trained? 🤗

I read this too in the IMDb O.P trivia page, but as far as I remember O.P did not have a daughter named Vani.

It's sad about his family though. He abandoned them to hook up with Asha and one of his daughters was apparently left homeless 😒 (again if the IMDb page is to be believed)

You are right Priya. It is Vani Jayaram. He complimented her and Asha was fuming with anger, removed those musicians from work!

I think this is the song referred here--- Zulf Lahrai To Sawan Ka Mahina

Today, I am sharing with you all this song which is one of my most favourite songs from tGeeta Dutt Private Songs Album.

Many may not be aware that Geeta Dutt has sung some really sweet and melodious private songs in Hindi. Jamunaa ke teer kanhaa aao--and this song both of these songs have been composed by the distinguished tabla player Pandit Nikhil Ghosh, younger brother of famous virtuoso of Hindustani classical music on the transverse flute, Pandit Pannalal Ghosh. The lyrics were penned by Bharat Vyas.
“Haule haule hawaa dole” begins with Geeta almost whispering the words “Haule haule..haayein dole” in her dreamy voice! The rhythm picks up and we have this fast-paced song rendered so effortlessly by Geeta. It is kind of surprising that a song where the girl is calling for her “King of hearts” and is saying “saawan suhawan aaya, piya mere tum naa aaye” is not a slow and deeply expressing song. Quite unlike the opening words, the song is far from a "Haule haule" song. It is very fast-paced. This was one of the few non-film songs that one could hear very frequently on the radio. I heard it once on Radio Sri Lanka.

The Bengali nuance/accent in her voice is quite manifest and, if anything, it makes the song even more melodious. The delight of anticipation suffuses this song with a unique charm all its own. The beats of Tabla before the words “Ghan ghan badaraa gaaje, jhan jhan paayal baaje” are a simple indication of the genius of Pandit Nikhil Ghosh.
