Either way he is going the masala route again which is smarter (look at the success of movies like simmba and sooryavanshi) and despite the hate Chennai Express and HNY get they were Blockbuster/Superhit and Dilwale would have done well too if it wasn't for his intolerance comments + clash.

SRK and most of his fans like me don't want him to suddenly do side character roles like Amitabh, that would suck

Yeah focusing on VFX and in general trusting niche directors like Imtiaz Ali was a mistake. He needs to be in movies that have mass appeal be it masala or well done content driven movies like Chak de india

I think people should stop comparing about second innings. Amitabh and Rajinikanth lasted long due to their own charisma. Amitabh particularly had advantage of his voice, height, screen presence and language skills which is why he succeeded on TV in KBC and later in films. Young people also watch KBC and make memes based on Amitabh's lines in the show.

Not everyone else has those advantages to still appeal to audience or catch fancy of younger people.

Plenty of other actors like Shatru, Rajesh Khanna, Vinod Khanna, Jeetendra, Mithun, Jackie etc failed in dad roles after 60.

Either you have charisma or you take versatility route like Rishi Kapoor did. Or try to look young, fit and atleast do ads and dad roles like Anil.

Otherwise male actors usually lose interest of audience post 60. Not even watched as dads if people do not like them.
