It's not just you at all, standards have fallen massively, mostly due to nepotism imo.

Nepotism is out of control now, there was a fine balance in the 90s but now it feels like most of the newcomers are annoying nepo kids. I blame Karan Johar

Problem is that none of them want to work on their acting skills...it's more of belly dance, plastic surgeries and fit bod these days bcuz of which all look alike. In Ash, Rani, Kajol, Priety era each one had a distinct personality.

I don't think actresses or actors are the problem.

Problem is with producers and directors.

Sridevi had bala chander, Shekhar Kapoor and Yash chopra

Madhuri had Subhash Ghai and IndraKumar

Karisma had Dharmesh Darshan.

Manisha and Salman had SLB work his magic on them

Mani Rathnam and Mahesh Bhatt were there.

Directors / Producers could actually polish an actress or actors performance

All of the above actresses started very raw but it was these guys who made them come alive on screen as a Diva or an actress

While on hand these senior guys have lost their mojo and the new crop of director producers are incapable in not just selecting good scripts and but also polishing the performance of their actors and actresses.

KJo cannot make people perform neither can Zoya Akhtar.

In Atrangi itself you see a difference in performance of 3 actors. If it had been Mahesh Bhatt in his prime all three would have been remarkable.

With Anand Rai you could see Dhanush being effortless, Akshay trying hard and Sara very raw.

Anyone remember Dil Hai Ki Manta Nahin with Aamir < experienced actor like Dhanush> PoojaBhat

Deepika has been going strong for 14 years now, she isn't part of this new age of bland actresses

2013 was literally her best year with Ram Leela, YJHD and CE (just blockbuster + hit movies). Obviously some bash her but they don't matter. Even when Deepika debuted with OSO back in 2007 she was bigger than the latest generation of actresses..and all that without any forced hype from Kjo

That’s fine. But these bland girls might go on and have success

1.They must all be seeing the same doctor,stylist etc since they all kind of look the same.

2. They have all been doing fewer films and putting all their eggs in one basket. As opposed to the older generation who'd do more films and learn their craft faster. And there's bound to be at least 1 or 2 hits among the 5 or 6 released in a year. The older actors like the Khans can get away with it but not a newbie. But other than Akshay Kumar none of the actors are releasing too many films a year. That's the new norm. I've seen Anil Kapoor being puzzled at the way his children are handling their career and being selective. He and his contemporaries have rushed from set to set and making hay while the sun shines.

3.With fewer films being released each year they have to keep the public's attention via ads(leading to audience getting tired of seeing them on TV all the time) or link-ups or other PR cooked up gimmicks which could backfire.
