I only feel bad for Team 83. Kapil Dev and co deserved to have younger generations know their story of winning against all odds and first time an Indian team winning a WC.

This makes me think we have less takers for films where Indians are pitted against PoCs. Had it been a Pakistani team or British or Aussies, maybe Indians would have related more to patriotism angle.

I feel film should have released on OTT. Not theatres.

Cricket based films never work in India except for maybe Lagaan which was more about defeating British and getting tax exempted and not cricket per se.

There is already overdose of cricket in India. Sultan, Dangal, CDI, Bhag Milkha Bhag are only sports films which succeeded and they all have sports other than cricket as their theme.

I am sure digital streaming sites would lap up in getting premiere rights for such a film. The whole film ecosystem doesn't care about the glorious reviews or Ranveer's performance or Kapil Dev's legacy, they care about return of their investments. This will hit everyone in the business.

Depends on what the budget is. If it's the earlier reported 125cr before promotion then OTT would have made sense and producers would have made profit when added to other rights. But if it's the more recent reported 270cr then OTT would never have offered near that. It needed a substantial B.O. take before heading to streaming etc. Same reason why a film like Brahmastra with a reported 300+cr budget or RRR with a reported 500cr+ budget can't afford to skip theatrical or open while there are restrictions.

Just curious, how much did Iqbal make, was ita hit? That was a very well made movie on cricket.

I guess documentary type movies are boring now and there have been enough movies made on cricket. My personal fav are Lagaan and Iqbal.

A fraction of what 83 made it's 1st day but it cost a fraction as well.

It is not that some people don't get it. BOI lost its marbles because it gets it only too well.

The reactions here tells same story.

Thanks again to Kabir Khan for making this film👏

Apparently the budget was around the same amount @ bold initially. As per articles it went over budget due to them keeping it in the cans for so long and waiting for theatres to open.

The film will crawl and recover the cost.

Covid, Pushpa and Spiderman are not the only reason for its first week under performance. The biggest sports events are watched on TV.

Waiting for OTT. This film has shown that Ranveer can play ANY role.He will reap rich rewards this year. More money, more brands , more films.

Also very happy for Kapil Nd his WC team. They deserved this film. This quality of film..an honest film.

TOH and Zero made 7-8 crores in the 2nd week. 83 made that on single Saturday and Sunday .

Not too bad a result..considering how much money big films are going to lose by postponement and clashes in the coming months

TOH and Zero were outrightly rejected by the critics. Zero's second week saw a new release in Simmba unlike 83 with a free run.

I am amazed why people are praising Ranveer for getting Kapil Dev's mannerisms, after all he was enacting his role so he had to get that all right. From make up, hair, voice tone to mannerism. But still when you watch the movie you always... always feel this is Ranveer Singh not the character Kapil Dev. Every now and then, you can clearly see the mischief, OTT, Raveer Singh on the screen.

I felt his enactment of "Gully Boy" was much better than 83.

Even if you compare with biopics like Sanju, Ranbir Kapoor's performance easily supersedes Ranveer Singh in 83.

I felt the movie was overall OKish ... like some 83 World Cup Highlights. The matches took the center stage over overall narrative. Still there was nothing much going on in those matches. Compared to "Dhoni" the movie, how matches were covered, how emotions were weaved within those matches right from "Ranchi" Inter school matches. Such kind of emotions or excitement were lacking in the movie 83.

This isn't a biopic like an entire life journey of a person which Dhoni was. This is a team's story from being underdogs to world cup winners.

How can a team be labelled underdog when they won first 2 matches in the playoffs that too match against then reigning world cup winners like West Indies ?

Kabir Singh faltered big time with the narrative this time.
