Which actors have potential to last in showbiz in older age?

Amitabh, Dilip Kumar, Hema Malini, Rekha and to some extent Dharmendra and Ashok Kumar have managed to stay relevant even post 60.

Amitabh and DK have given hits in old age also. Amitabh gave solo success like Baghban at 60 plus. Dilip Kumar and Raaj Kumar gave a top grosser like Saudagar in old age.

In south Rajinikanth gave hits like Sivaji, Robot in older age.

Which Hindi film star has potential to have good second innings or stay relevant like AB and DK?

Can any Hindi star give big grossers like Robot at 60 something like Rajinikanth? Or is it impossible for Hindi film actors to give solo hits or solo BBs in post 60 age?

Among actors I'd say Hrithik, Aamir, Salman (if he stops trying to play and act opposite 25 year olds and does some different films 😆). Same goes for Akshay when it comes to the stopping playing/acting opposite 25 year olds. SRK could but idk how likely it is if Pathan doesn't work.

Can't say anything about the younger lot (Ranveer, Ranbir, Varun, etc.) because they aren't even in their 40s yet and people seem to be losing interest already...

Among actresses I think Kareena definitely could, also Priyanka and definitely Vidya as well. Can't picture anyone else from that generation of actresses lasting that long, and it's to early to say for the next one.

I think Aamir is safe in old age as he can do films like Dangal, TZP, in which looks or age do not matter. He can choose good subjects and stop doing TOH or D3 type films, acting opposite girls half his age.

Akshay has potential as he is fittest of all senior actors and can do films like Mission Mangal, which do not require conventional herogiri.

I am not sure if any Hindi film actor can give as big grosser as Robot at 60 or do a Rajinikanth. Hindi audience does not hero worship stars like ones in South.

Among ladies I think Kajol, Vidya and Rani can stick around or maybe even give a hit like Hema did in Baghban.

I am not sure which actress can manage to look as ageless as Rekha or stay iconic/relevant like her or do any memorable roles like Lajja.

I am not sure about Salman. He probably can last if he stops acting opposite girls half his age.

I feel will of filmmakers is also needed to give older actors a good chance like Subhash Ghai gave good roles to Dilip Kumar and Raaj Kumar in Karma, Saudagar and BR, Ravi Chopra gave good role to Amitabh in Baghban, Bhansali gave good role to Amitabh in Black.

It takes a skilled filmmaker to tap talent of older actors as per their age.

Agreed on all points, like you said, Kajol and even more so Rani I can definitely see sticking around for a long time to come.

Though I feel along with filmmakers of the past we need to give credit to the actors back then too, they (for the most part 😆) gracefully accepted their ages and agreed to play roles appropriate to the same... if anything some were too young for their roles sometimes, like AB senior playing Rimi Sen's grandfather in Baghban when he was only a few years older than Akshay and the Khans are right now 😆

Valid point.

Dilip Kumar had to contend with Jackie, Naseer, Anil and several heroines sharing limelight with him in Karma even though film is ultimately driven by his character.

Amitabh was around 61 or so when he did Baghban. Definitely not old enough to be dad of 4 grown up, married sons and grandfather of Rimi Sen. Hema was almost around age of Khans now or a tad older in her late 50s when she played granny in Baghban.

Filmmakers cannot do much if stars are unwilling to act in older roles or share limelight with several other young actors.

Dilip Kumar and Raaj Kumar had to play grandpas of Manisha and Vivek Mushran in Saudagar though the film is more about their friendship than the 'dada' part.

Given the kind of success Khans, Kumar have enjoyed and kind of narcs they are having sustained for so long, I doubt they will agree to make compromises on fees or footage anytime soon.

I do not see any of 90s stars do a Rajinikanth in future.

Ultimately they will have to do more films like Dangal, TZP, CDI, Mission Mangal or how Raaj Kumar played professor in Bulandi in case they do not want to be grandpas or dads of grown kids onscreen. Or maybe attempt to play doctors, politicians, scientists or detectives etc.

They have not suffered crisis or downfall like Amitabh nearly went bankrupt after failure of ABCL. Amitabh's failures taught him a lot and made him desperate enough to do anything he was offered. His family found TV below dignity for a star like him but he struck gold with KBC unexpectedly.

Khans, Kumars, Devgans etc have not seen such bad days so they will probably not be desperate enough to compromise on fees or kind of roles they get.

A 60 year old Amitabh Bachchan was NOT too young to play grandfather to 21 year old Rimi Sen. Amitabh Bachchan Amitabh Bachchan Kbc GIF - Amitabh Bachchan Amitabh Bachchan Kbc Good - Discover & Share GIFsFFS

What's given is that the heroines will have to take up mom roles earlier than their contemporary male actors. That said, TV shows with the incredibly younger looking moms of the hero/ heroine scare the life out of me. Not even after the show has fastforwarded 10-15 years.

TV is worse than films nowadays. Teens are playing bahu and women play saas at 25 and dadi at 30.

Nobody predicted that one day the world would come to a standstill and we would see empty streets in cities.Any actor would quit in the future or will continue.I never thought Daniel Day Lewis would retire. No one knows what the future holds.

This is true but it was a hypothetical question. Otherwise we wouldn't even know which actor would even remain alive post 60.
