That was the worst episode (Dec 29) I have ever seen in any Indian drama - period. Between all the characters doing a U-turn or digging themselves more into their character flaws, the shrill screaming of Imlie and what the CVs thought was epic drama was just embarrassing to watch. The TRPs will not save you, CVs, from the awful writing you displayed today. I could not help but cringe throughout it. It looked so false and contrived that it fell flat in a genre (Indian soap opera) that forgives all OTT behavior - except this episode. YUCK!
Epic Cringe #1 - The classic nasamajh son of Aparna's, the paragon of Indian manhood in the eyes of two sisters, the truth teller who whips up mobs for "journalistic passion" and gets whomever he wants whenever he wants with no thought for the woman or the society where these women suffer. Only in his mid-30s and going for a third marriage and yo-yoing between two sisters like they are objects to pick up and drop...he is a nasamajh son who is shocked that Malini is mad at him on his second betrayal. What!? Why can't a change my mind last minute and give you, my pregnant fiance, a second mock wedding? What a weightless loser the CVs have made of Aditya, the character. It was disgusting that he just turned and said he will drop his friend after dragging her name through society once again only to dump her - again. I was with Malini on this point today, he is to blame and it was always him, not Imlie. Malini is right, Imlie deserved her apology because Malini idealized Aditya. Aditya hears Malini say she crossed all lines (assault) and he is like meh okay, I will just run back to Imlie now and ask for her character certificate and deign to forgive her and ask her to take me back while you pick up the pieces of my whiplash wedding plans. Also, poor you and your parents that I let you foot all the bills like the proud man I am. This is his second mock wedding he subjected Malini to and he has no thought for the baby that he apparently prioritizes above all. How many brain cells are these writers working with here!?
Epic Cringe #2 - Aparna and Radha, the ideal Indian middle-class moms, who think that it is a 19-year-old Imlie's responsibility to set their mid-30s son on the right path by providing HER character-certificate to a man who had her marry him off twice and was watching him have a child with her sister. DISGUSTING display of expectations on women by older women about forgiving men's sins in the name of tradition and religion. Sexists pigs parading values while sacrificing a young girl to another sexist pig. To think that any show would dress that up in colorful costumes and promote it is disgusting. Gul, as a female business-owner, has to take responsibility for promoting sexism through her shows in the name of saas-bahu drama. Aparna who was going to support Imlie for taking a different stance just changes for TRP and tells Imlie to fix it. WHY!? Why would a teenager be responsible for saving a marriage with an older man who should know better? What did Imlie owe him? What does a man like Aditya have to offer after dropping Imlie twice for another woman? Does a woman, and a young one at that, have no right to self-respect and self-determination? Aparna and family have been discussing Imlie's purity for a while to make sure she is not with Aryan when Aditya was marrying his assault baby mamma and second wife a second time under the same roof with no questions about his moral compass! Why does virginal Imlie owe anything to this nasamajh son? Why would she take him back and settle for such a two-timing loser of an obituary writer?
Epic Cringe #3 - Imlie who learned nothing and is clearly suffering from a multitude of syndromes (Stockholm syndrome esp.) related to getting socialized and addicted to an older man who cares nothing for her but just says he does. She has turned into Pavlov's dog from the randomized amount of interest that Aditya shows to her (same as Malini) because she doesn't know when he will be meherban on her next. She is addicted to the hope that he will drop the pregnant fiance (her sister) for her just if she asked and then she will have this ideal husband material back in her life whom she can go back to like she is a cheap moolah and not Sattyakam's daughter. Imlie should have just left him underground when Sattyakam made that decision. Only he saw Aditya for the abuser he is - that would have saved us all from the headache that he is to Malini and Imlie (jk). Imlie is screaming like a banshee throughout the episode like she learned nothing from the good kicking she got from Aditya in the past few months. I used to think it is Malini who had no self-respect, but today she made a U-turn. It is Imlie who has no self-respect. She can marry off this guy twice at his own will and still want him and beg for his attention only to plan to play second mom to his and her sister's assault baby. 4Lions have cheapened the female lead to nothing because they wanted TRPs and basically changed every character today because the writers don't know their own characters. There is literally no consistency in characters. Malini and Imlie switched self-respect today and both are running after a good-for-nothing small-time yellow journalist with more attitude than character. It was embarrassing to watch.
The only thing good that happened was Aryan's deletion of the text today, but he might turn tomorrow. He was doing Imlie a favor there because the prize is really not worth winning and he was naive enough to believe Imlie's monologue about self-respect and moving on. He was the only one consistent with his character in wanting to take Imlie out of this disgusting situation with a man (Adi) who doesn't know his own mind. It is still a man (Aryan) who thinks he knows better, but it's also a friend who thinks he's helping a friend drop of dud of a husband who will destroy her (he's right about that). Aryan will watch Imlie run after Adi tomorrow while throwing her work assignment to the side as the writers have written it, but it's not his place to stop her. Imlie should be embarrassed that she is running after Aditya after all this like her life depended on it. She learned nothing from Aryan. This was not a display of epic love, it was a cringefest on an unconvincing couple where the Stockholm syndrome female victim just wants a man because he was forced to put sindoor on her. If it was a rando serial killer who did the honors, she would run after that pati-parmeshvar too. Showing that kind of blindness as a village value is regressive and does a disservice to the intelligence of village women.
CVs, bow your heads in SHAME. 4Lions is an embarrassing company with terrible writers who cannot hold a candle to the production houses they try to compete with and they proved that today - all in one episode. Well done! You have ruined main characters like Aditya and Imlie and Adilie is no longer the romantic couple you think it is to the viewers. Today's episode convinced no one that Aditya and Imlie should be together just because you made Imlie run and scream for TRP. That music and what you thought was highnote drama was just sickeningly gross and awkwardly shot. Aditya became completely disgusting when he decided to drag a pregnant Malini to the altar AGAIN only to want to drop her and run back to Imlie and expect to be accepted back. His character is not grey, it's black. He's a sexist pig repeatedly playing with two sisters and you are promoting characters like this by claiming that you are doing highbrow drama with complicated characters. Your characters are not complicated, they are a jumble with no consistency because you don't know how to write! Stop hyping confusion as character complications. You just don't know how to write at all. That episode was cringe in the worst way and looked neither high on emotions, nor drama. That shrill screaming was unconvincing and I don't blame Sumbul, any woman would be shocked that she would have to make such a disgusting begging believable. If you think that was like the Oh-rama-go scene in Devdas, you are deluded fools. Aditya is no prize to win and not a sympathetic character.
I can't be the only one who found this episode awful and embarrassing. Tell me your thoughts. Can someone share my post with the CVs? I would like them to read this. If you know any on social media, please post it before they destroy Imlie and her progress all together.
