Abhimanyu reached the hospital, both relieved and irritated at the same time. He was out of his mind worried about her, and she was being cheeky. How he had managed to fall in love with the most frustrating girl in the world was beyond him. As he crossed the surgery board, he saw that he did not even have any surgeries scheduled. It looked like his Aunty had cleared his schedule as he needed to be home on time. He desperately needed a distraction today as just his patients were not going to be enough.
He threw this bag onto the visitor chair and turned on his computer. He was going to catch up on all his paperwork today. As he was reviewing reports, there was a knock on his door. A ward boy delivered him a box. He opened the box and smiled. It was her bracelet. The note read:
It seems to make its way to you anyway.
Yours, Gharelu Doctor.”
Then he remembered the last time he put this bracelet back on her wrist. She had called him” Koi Bhi.” All the pain and hurt came flooding back. His heart had burned that day. He took a deep sigh and, feeling helpless at the hands of his heart, and shoved the bracelet in his pocket. It was going to be its permanent place. The bracelet was a piece of him that would go everywhere with him from now on. His phone beeped. Abhimanyu checked his smartwatch. Akshara’s message flashes- Did you eat? He ignored the message and then, cursing himself, made his way to the cafeteria.
Akshara was on a mission- to win her man back. Just for the man she loves. She could not believe that she could claim herself his even in her thoughts. She was no longer monitoring what she felt or thought. Her Abhi had given her freedom to her wishes. She would always be grateful to him for that. Akshara knew that no matter how angry he was with her, there was no way he would be able to resist her voice. So she made her way to the hospital where her love worked. She enlisted the help of the kids in the pediatric wing. He will at least not yell at her in front of the kids for showing up here while he had told her to rest. She, as usual, felt him before she could see him. She sang to pacify her love.
Piyaa, Piya mose, Piyaa aaa, Mora piya, Mora piya, Manat nahi
Mora piya mose bolat nahi, Mora piya mose bolat nahi
Dwaar jiya ke, Ohhh, Dwar jiya ke, Kholat nahi
Mora piya mose bolat nahi, Mora piya mose bolat nahi
After keeping his promise to eat, Abhimanyu went about his day. The hospital was abuzz with activity. A neurosurgeon visited the hospital to consult on one of his Uncles cases. The staff was all about how charming this young doctor was. All Abhimanyu wanted was this day to just pass. He went on his rounds, checked on his patients, and finished all his paperwork. The goal was to keep busy so that he did not lose his mind thinking how easily Akshara had disregarded him. He made his way to the ER, hoping to catch a case that would take his mind off his misery when he heard that voice that was his salvation.
Abhimanyu bedeviled himself for having such an unruly heart. He followed her voice like a charmed man follows his pied piper. She was in the pediatric ward, guitar in hand, and surrounded by kids. She noticed him the minute he entered the children’s ward. Abhimanyu felt his temper rise. She was supposed to be resting. As their eyes met, and as usual, his heartbeat increased. She was always beautiful to him, but today she took his breath away in her pink saree. Her Kohl layered eyes expectantly looking at him. They melted his heart. To keep his resolve, he looked away.
Today she had taken special care to dress up, just for the man she loves. He loved her in sarees, so that was her outfit. He loved looking into her eyes, so she layered them with Kohl. He loved to caress her hair off her forehead, so she opened them. Her bindi was signifying his claim on her. Her bangles chanted his name while her anklets reminded him of her existence. Love shone in his eyes, and then they stormed in anger.
Darpan dekhoo roop niharoo, Aur solah sringar karoon, Aaaa
Pher najariya baitha bairi, Kaise aankhiyan char karoon
Koi jatan ab..Hoo koi jatan ab kaam na aaye,Use kachu sohat nahi
Mora piya mose bolat nahi
He smiled at her words in the song. She is smart, his lady love. She knows that he cannot resist her voice. The pull is so strong that she could sing from the other side of the world, and he would feel the tug. Today she had dressed up for him. Abhimanyu’s heart soared at the thought. It was the first time she had done something just for him. She was simply magnificent. His Akshu once again has managed to overwhelm him with her love. She was surrounded by doctors, nurses, patients. His lady love was irresistible, so he could not blame them. Then his eyes caught a man from the other side of the room admiring his Akshu. Abhimanyu saw green when that man came and sat in front of Akshu. Before he could react, her following words pulled him back to her as she finished her song.
Humri ek muskan pe woh to, Haan humri ek muskan pe woh to
Apni jaan lutata tha, Jag bisra ke aathon pahriya, Mohre hi gun gata tha
Bhaa gayi kya, Ho bhagayi ka koi suatan okhe, Mora kachu bhawat nahi
Mora piya mose bolat nahi
The room roared with applause as Akshara finished the song. Abhimanyu smiled at the applause. How right was she? Abhimanyu wondered. He would move mountains to put a smile on her face. But, everyone and everything faded for him when she was in the room. This woman finally realized that she was his world. He stood at his spot, deciding not to move. He did not trust himself at the moment. He would just give in a gather her in his arms.
Akshara only had eyes for one man as the applause broke out. His face was still stoic though his eyes had softened a little. She would have given up anything to know what was going on in that stormy brain of his. Akshara put her guitar aside; got up to make her way to him. She stopped mid-step when a hand held out to her.
“Hello, Dr. Ayush Bajaj, Neurosurgeon.” The man introduced himself, “You have the most soothing voice in the world.”
“Akshara,” Akshara smiled at the compliment, “Thank you,” she replied politely. Then, her eyes met another gaze that was ablaze with anger.
“I am visiting the hospital to assist Dr. Mahima on one of her cases,” Dr. Bajaj continued. “Do you come here often to sing?”
“No,” Akshara replied, “Today is a special occasion.” Then, Akhara saw Abhimanyu make his way to them. The look on his face made her toes curl in worry.
“Well then, let’s celebrate the special occasion, and let me buy you a coffee,” Dr. Bajaj said, “This is the least I could do for you after you touched our souls with your voice.”
Before Akshara could reply, Abhimanyu did, “She is busy,” He looked straight into the eyes of Dr. Bajaj, making his intentions clear. Then, Abhimanyu took Akshara’s hand and took her out of the wing, and only stopped when they were in the safety of his office.
Abhimanyu locked the door and turned to her. He took a step towards her. However, he did not trust himself, so he shoved his hands in his pockets.“Do you know what I do for a living, Akshara?” Abhimanyu asked her, frustrated with himself, her, and the world. “I am a heart surgeon,” he replied for her. “Do you know what surgeons pride themselves the most on?” He asked.“Their control.” Abhimanyu answered.
“You make me lose all my control, Akshu,” Abhimanyu said. “How do you think that makes me feel?”
“I was trying to get away from him,” Akshara said.
Abhimanyu groaned in frustration, “It is not about Dr. Bajaj. I had made my peace with the fact that your voice would bring many men to you, like moths to a flame. Hell! I am one of those moths. I hate it when they look at you with adoring eyes, but I am also proud of you. You deserve every bit of that adoration. Meri Jaan, if it were up to me, the entire world would adore you as I do.”
Now Akshara was confused, “Why are you so angry then?”
“She is asking me why am I so angry?”Abhimanyu ran a frustrated hand through his hair. This woman would be the end of him. “I have a list for that.” Abhimanyu continued, “ For now, you were supposed to be resting today. But since when have you listened to anything I have said?”
“How could I rest knowing that you were angry with me?” Akshara dared to counter.
Abhimanyu replied, “Just like you continued with your life after you declared you did not love me.” Abhimanyu warped his arm around her waist and pushed her closer. “Just like you thought it was okay to participate in Aarohi’s lie.”
“She is my sister, Abhi. So how could I break her heart.” Akshara defended.
“So, you decided to break my heart. After all, I am just a Koi Bhi,” Abhimanyu taunted. “I fought with everyone for you, Akshu. I did not care about my family, reputation, and mother, while you did not even bother to look at me.”
“I was just trying to keep the peace between our families Abhi,” Akshara replied, hoping he would understand.
“Family, sister, brothers…do you even see me, Akshu?”Abhimanyu asked. He had now cornered her against the wall. “You made me believe that you left me to die in that fire. Do you have any idea how many deaths I have died since, thinking that my existence does not even matter to you? You so much as sneeze my heart stops.” Abhimanyu accused, more upset with himself than her.
“It was not easy for me too,” Aksharashot back, “I was in pain too, Abhimanyu. I was suffering too. But, you at least were able to express your anger. I did not even have that luxury.”
“And whose fault is that?” Abhimanyu countered, banging his other hand on the wall, “I asked, begged, pleaded, even yelled at you, but all you gave me was your silence.” Abhimanyu closed his eyes and took a deep breath to calm himself. “Do you know that your silence is deafening to my ears? A little faith Akshu that is all I needed from you. A little faith in me, and I would have made everything you want possible. There is nothing in this world I would not do for you.” Abhimanyu said, touching his forehead to hers, hoping she would understand. She was crying, and it was his heart that was bleeding. He had no more fight left in him, “I can fight the entire world for you, but I am incapable of fighting with you. I am defenseless in front of you.”
“I am so sorry, Abhi,” Askhara said as she hid her face in his neck.
“I don’t want your apology Akshu,” Abhimanyu whispered, drained from all the fighting. She was asking for solace, and how could he not give that to her? He gathered her in his arms, and she took the opportunity to wrap her arms around him, “Loving you is second nature to me. Know this, my love, no matter what happens, you are it for me. You are my first and last. There is no room for anyone else. All I ask from you is to have faith in me.” Abhimanyu reassured her.
His words gave her the courage she needed. Akshara raised her toes so that her lips reached his ears and said the words that righted Abhimanyu’s world, “I love you. I love you with everything I have, Mere Abhi,”
Abhimanyu felt a calm wash over him. That was all he needed from her, her acknowledging her love for him. He can do the shouting from the rooftops as long as she keeps whispering her confessions in his ears. “And that is all I ever wanted from you, Meri Jaan, to love me back. So you know there is no going back now, right Akshu,” Abhimanyu said, breaking the hug and backing her against the wall again.
Akshara nodded in agreement, “Love and Trust. In this lifetime and all others.” She saw the emotion change in his eyes, and her heart raced. He smiled as if he had been handed keys to heaven. The air sizzled.
One hand around her waist, he moved the hair away from her face. Abhimanyu loved doing that. “Looks like someone dressed up for me,” Abhimanyu whispered in her ear as he traced his fingers over her bangles and up her arm.
“Abhima..”Akshara began, but he put the finger on her lips to stop her. He nodded negatively. His hand went around her neck, cupping her face. “You know I wanted to punch him in the face,” Abhimanyu said simply. “Mine, You are Mine.” Abhimanyu brought her closer, and she leaned into his hand. Inches apart from each other, their breathing was also in harmony.
“Yours,” Akshara said, not breaking eye contact. She could not have been able to pull her gaze away from his intense eyes if she tried. Her skin was on fire, yet his touch was sending shivers down her spine.
“Remember what I said, Akshu. It was your turn to come to me.” She was finally in his arms. His love, his life, his world had claimed him. His own personal miracle. His burning soul has been given the balm that it needed. She may hold his heart in her hands but today was her turn to beg. It took all the control he had to not give in to what her eyes and his heart demanded.
“Kiss Me,” Akshara said, and he did. Gentle and soft first; possessed and demanding after.
This man was her universe, and she vowed to protect him with her everything.
My apologies in advance for the length and errors. This is finally over. I am not completely satisfied with this one but at this point I am too tired.
Chappals and Comments are welcome.
