Can a Heroine open a movie as big as a Hero ? Do today's heroines have that stardom where they can open a film as big as their Male counterparts on their own stardom ?

Such instances had happened in the past. If we look back at the last century, we can see heroines like SRIDEVI who could open a film as big or bigger than the Heroes. For example, in 1989, when SRIDEVI - starrer Nigahen clashed with Amitabh Bachchan - Meenakshi Seshadri - Amrita Singh - Farooq Shaikh - starrer highly anticipated Toofan, guess what ?? The first day collections of Nigahen were higher than Toofan, thereby taking a bumper opening. Such was Her Superstardom and pull at the box office.

Again, if we look back a little more, then we can see in late 1940's, Suraiya was one heroine who could give huge opening to Her movies. Even, in many cities in India, schools, colleges, offices used to remain closed on the opening day of Her films. Dharmendra once said that in his youth, he went to see Suraiya - starrer Dillagi (1949) over 40 times in theatre. She was such a rage and audiences were that crazy about Her.

Of course, there have been other heroines as well, like Madhubala, etc. But looking at today's scenario, I can't see any such heroine. Over the past few years, all the commercially successful heroine-centric films have been sleeper hits, mainly because of content and good word of mouth, but not for their stardom. What are your thoughts on this ?? What are the reasons you think that today's heroines don't have that level of stardom ??? Also, can we expect any heroine from the newcomers who may grow such big stardom ????

It has happened in the past as in the examples given.

1. The "Sridevi starrer" Nigahen ALSO STARRED a little known actor named SUNNY DEOL. SO how are we going to give her all the credit??????

2. There are ZERO examples of Suraiya's films opening bigger than her male counterparts... you can't simply randomly pick a film from the 1940s and pretend that it's a source without a source...???

3. Nigahen had a good opening because it was a SEQUEL to a successful film in 1986 called Nagina. But overall the collections were not good because the Trilogy "Naghme" was SHELVED.

I hope now you are not going to give the credit of the excellent opening of ChaalBaaz solely to sunny and rajni; bumper opening of Mr. India to anil.

All these films were led by SRIDEVI, and were sold on the name of Sridevi. She was a much bigger star and a greater box office pull than sunny and anil at that time. She was India's no. 1 actress at that time. So, she got all the credit.

And by the way, have u blocked me ?
