Exactly. Upbringing matters. I'm going to back-track from the OST š, which btw I love Jaaniya and am too busy fangirling those scenes to think about if it's misplaced š
I like how they are interspersing the drama and jaaaniyaaa with scenes that not only contrast the families but also their differing values. They are telling us what Imlie's relationship with Aryan would be like and what her life as a R family member would be like.
Most of the T's view Imlie as some sort of lakshmi because she's stood by their son, her eyes have love for him, blah blah. In that house love is given and taken away at one's discretion based on the other's behavior. It's conditional.
Whereas the R's simply enjoy Imlie for who she is and with no expectations. She doesn't have to behave a particular way for them to love her. It's unconditional.
For the C's, there's a lack of real love, and for that I pity them. Neither woman knows what it feels like to be accepted for who you are, only for what you project to the world.
I went off on a tangent š
As far as Aryan goes, yes he can be an ass, but I agree he's only grey. Not controlling. The urge to control stems from ego and insecurity. An I-can't-accept-that-you-are-your-own-person type of thing. This I've seen modelled in Aditya. And Malini. Not Aryan. And honestly Aryan isn't required to roll over and worship at Imlie's feet. I think some get turned off of him because this is the expectation. They want him to project this new-age feminism that actually is the enemy of real feminism. Now I've gone and done it, mentioned the F word šš
I love how you breakdown the families. Their unconditional love is what makes the Rās so enjoyable. The lack of expectations to be something she isnāt. I also appreciate that even though Aryanās mom would love for the two to be together, she never has that the forefront of her mind. Itās always about Imlieās happiness and well-being independent of her son.
With the Tās, agree, even though theyāve apparently accepted her their love still seems conditional based on what she can do for them and her eventually one day coming back to their family. This is why I liked Adiās mom pointing out that they actually havenāt stood up for done anything for het (although I guess they did take a stand the day she walked out of their home) for her. Because they havenāt. Theyāre son, whoās a grown ass man, whoās apparently a top tier reporter (all meaning he should know better) is being a total jerk but beyond this is being especially disrespectful to Imlie and theyāre all standing by watching and expecting her to make the most of it still.
I canāt even speak to the C women. Thatās a whole different level but youāre absolutely right. They donāt actually know what love is. Which is why even after all theyāve done, they still arenāt satisfied because how dare Imlie find the strength to keep moving forward when they canāt be happy even having āwonā. M wanted Adi, she got him, what does it matter what Imlie does?!

Yes!! Think about it, do you want a man who rolls over and worships you, solves every problem for you, etc.? Or do you want a man that challenges you, thatās actually a partner? I mean yes there have been moments where I was like - that was a bit harsh, but overall heās just got higher expectations of her, expectations she would have if she had more confidence in herself. But sheās been surrounded by people that have just humoured her and sought to clip her wings, make sure she knew her place, instead of allowing her to soar - which is what Aryan does.
