Her skin tone seems to be getting lighter and lighter over the years.
Not just her, but even other actresses like Kajol have lighter skin tones now.

Perhaps if the audience stopped seeing white skin as the epitome of beauty?😆
She definitely did. She said she did it for Bajirao Mastani as that was her role requirements since Mastani was fair skinned, due to her lineage.
She did tone it down afterwards as she is not that whitewashed anymore, but she seems to be still doing it on & off or in low intensity to maintain some of the lightening.
Maybe she liked how she looked with lighter skin & wants to retain that or maybe she feels the need to be fair skinned because Indian viewers are fond of fair skinned beauties. She seems pretty insecure & overtly competitive, so quite possible.

of course ... 😆 now people in positions of power, people who already rose above stereotypes and prejudices, choosing to lighten their skin out of pure vanity and because they have money to burn is also public's fault. Cuz personal accountability is on a vacation and we don't know when it'll be back. 😛
I’ve personally never been that interested in the skin color or face 😆

pssh, you weren't interested in her anyway! what's with everyone trying to pass the blame on others for their choices. 😎
I think when people take care of their skins and do regular facials and all that( just normal ones not skin lightening) the skin brightens quite a bit and looks lighter. I have seen it on people around me to the point that the body is very different to the face and neck. I think its perhaps just that for her and then the lights they work wonders to brighten, because except shoots and movies she seems to look her normal colour in interviews? I don't know havent followed her too much

Right.
The Indian audience and Bollywood are not at all at fault for demanding and getting fair skinned Barbies who can't move a facial muscle to save themselves yet somehow get to be numbers 1, 2, 3.
Or for demanding fair skinned wives.
Or for getting designer babies.
It's all the woman's fault.
Edited to add. Excuse me, it's all the fault of the women who have money because that somehow saves them from Indian society's (or any society's) colorism. (cough, cough) Bipasha Basu, Konkona, Kajol, Rekha, most South Indian actors. They should've martyred themselves and lost their careers so they could hold up a mirror to society. The audience would not at all have moved on to said fair skinned Barbies.
Oh, while we are at it. Female actors should not at all hide their marriages or their pregnancies because it's their personal responsibility to ensure society changes.
Nor should they get Botox or plastic surgery or fillers or hair dye. Because those actresses are now in positions of power and already rose above stereotypes and prejudices. Them choosing to hide signs of aging is out of pure vanity and because they have money to burn. Not at all the public's fault. (Not making a list here because it would be easier to make a list of who hasn't done it)
They definitely shouldn't falsify their ages because (see above paragraph).
They should insist on being cast opposite 60 year old men who debuted 30 years ahead of them and continue to hold ground as said heroes turn to teens and 20 somethings.
It's not the society's responsibility to fix its own sexism, misogyny, and overall bigotry.
