The hug and kiss were completely platonic. Just like it was when he keeps a hand on her shoulder for the family photo. Come on yaar, they were married for 25 years, have 3 kids and a lifetime between them...there is a certain comfort level they have reached. And the shoe only highlighted the abuse par there would have been tender moments as well na!!
Anupama needed this. She doesn't need permission from Vanraj. But this is an assurance that he will not create more drama and hence she doesn't have to worry so much. Just like Bapuji's nudge helped her examine her feelings for Anuj, Vanraj's push will help her accept them more wholeheartedly.
Though chances are slim, I hope they don't turn around Vanraj's character again. He can be a MCP, a jerk and grey without being so completely evil and obnoxious
