Misogynistic statements from actors
Teja in Andaz Apna Apna
Liking a character is different than rooting for him. You should have a good reason to root for the antagonist or anti-hero in a film.
SRK in Don series and Baazigar or Hrithik in Dhoom 2 weren't antagonists. They were anti-heroes but still they were the protagonists of the film.
SRK in Darr or Ranveer in Padmaavat can be called antagonists. Because there are better lead characters in the film, who are clearly more moral than them.
There is still no reason to root for them. I can't remember any Bollywood film currently where antagonist was more reasonable than the protagonist. Definitely not in mainstream films. Bollywood usually have black and white characters in every film.
Darr - SRK acted really good and being younger he looked better with Juhi than Sunny. I do not endorse stalking, murder and harassment though. I strictly like it for SRK's acting and chemistry with Juhi.
Mr India - Amrish Puri was so awesome as Mogambo that I never disliked him at all.
Agnisakshi - Again I do not endorse abuse nor like the character but Nana Patekar made the film what it is because of his acting and one liners. No one does eccentric roles better than him.
Parinda - That film is nothing without Jackie and Nana. I never bothered about good guy played by Anil. Jackie's complicated past, dilemma were interesting to watch and Nana was brilliant as eccentric villain.
Karz - Simi is gorgeous and Prem Nath is probably the most unique villain with his act as a mute person who clinks glasses to convey his message to henchmen.
Gupt - I do not endorse murder or obsessive stalking, being posessive to point of madness but Kajol was brilliant in the film and showed real, desperate, helpless passion for man she loved. Almost makes you feel bad for how dangerous her obsession had become.
Khalnayak- It is a Sanjay Dutt show only. Brilliant as anti hero. Jackie was entirely overshadowed despite that Ram Ram jaap almost likening his character to gods. Sanjay's career best work before Vaastav and Munnabhai MBBS happened.
All villains of Dhoom series. They usually are hotter and have convincing back story of why they turned rogue.

Teja and Crime Master Gogo are the only lovable villains in history of Hindi cinema. And Robert and Bhalla are most adorable villain's henchmen. Paresh Rawal, Shakti Kapoor and other 2 actors are so brilliant.

I read the Iliad (the easy version of course) in 6th grade and fell in love with Hector and hated Achilles. Ever since then I only like anti-heroes 😆I mean that explains my lifetime love for Dexter, also.
Aren't the Greeks the villains in the Iliad? They had to cheat (or resort to trickery) to win. Trojans are established as a wronged nation with a select group finally escaping with Aenas to rebuild Troy elsewhere.
Achilles was vain, pompous, arrogant, and self-absorbed. He seeks glory and finds it as a mercenary. He has no true loyalties. Every duel or battle he wins, Achilles gloats. He knows he is blessed and near-invincible and shows off. He kills Hector in vengeance and desecrates his body - an atrocity even in ancient Greeks. The Gods had to protect Hector's body from Achilles. Priam had to literally beg for Achilles to let him have his son's body to conduct the last rights. I cannot think of any crueler act.
Hector on the other hand is humble and grounded. He doesn't seek glory or war. He is committed to being a good son, husband, father, and brother. He puts his life on the line for his family. He regrets that his country has to go to war. He regrets killing Patrocles who was just a boy. And ultimately dies an honorable death.
So I always interpreted it as Hector being the hero and Achilles being the anti-hero/antagonist. Ultimately, both met unfortunate ends due to the egos of Agamemnon and Menelaus.

I agree. But Greeks aren’t seen as the villain in the book when it’s taught or conventionally either from what I have seen. I took Classics in undergrad and the consensus was that Hector was an anti-hero. Which for me never made sense since I despise Achilles
Bold-IKR. I always found him more good in these negative roles. Like he completely stole the show in the movies you have mentioned. Wish he explored that genre more.Of all I think SRK was best at anti-hero, all the roles you have to hate him for what he is done, yet you feel bad for him.
Be it Darr or Baazigar
Even Kabhi Haa, Kabhi Naa.
Wish he has done more such types than the Rahul/Raj kind.
Ranveer was way too weird and sucked as Khilji but damn good in Lootera, loved that one too
Kajol in Gupt.
PC in Aitraaz.

Movies where you ended up rooting for the antagonist/anti-hero more than the protagonist? You can also state the reason if you like.
Interesting Kostin
SRK - in darr and bazigar even though he was clearly on the wrongside I couldn't help but root for him. The sheer madness, pain, anger, shown by him in those 2 movies. I think it was one of the best of his career.
Vikram Vedha- I really liked and root for Veda in Vikram Veda for the charisma of vijay sethupathi although he was a gangster.
Sanjay Dutt- in vastav and khalnayak on how an innocent man was forced by the circumstances to become what he never imagined.
Sherlock- lol I really really really love Sherlock I am obsessed with him but I couldn't help myself from liking Jim Moriarty in the BBC Sherlock. The fact that they chose a sweet looking harmless guy as the criminal mastermind and how he really gave that steely change of expression to drive his point, simply awesome. A great villain makes a great hero.
Squid Game - unpopular opinion but I think Sang- woo of squid game was quite understandable and even relatable to some extent, which makes the reality and perception very harsh.

Very well written.
My biased would be Manisha in Dil Se and Ranveer in Lootera. But then again they cannot be truly labelled as antagonists.
I think Suniel Shetty in Dhadkan was an antagonist I rooted for.
