Who are mainly online stars?

Lot of stars are hyped only online or on social media but have little traction or BO success in real life and people rarely discuss them in real life.

My list of such online/social media 'stars only' would be:

- Taapsee (never saw people discuss or praise her except critical acclaim for Pink and Thappad as those films were based on relevant issues)

- Sushmita Sen (the only time there was craze for her was when she became first woman from India to win Miss Universe at such a young age at 18 in 1994. She has no hits except Biwi no.1 and Main Hoon na. She had respect for adopting 2 girls and removing stigma around adoption, paving way for single women to adopt kids in India. Other than that I have never seen people talk much about her or flock to see her films)

- Nawazuddin, Manoj Bajpai, Pankaj Tripathi: They have had immense success in web series and offbeat films or films based on underworld, crime but I have not heard of their fans in real life or setting BO on fire. Or even adding greater commercial value to films the way Pran and Amrish Puri used to add commercial value to films they did because of their popularity in villainous and character roles.

- Anushka Sharma - Honestly I have not heard of any craze for her like Kat or DPad or Kajol, Rani etc. She did have success in Khan films. But is more known for her relationship with Virat Kohli. Had she not been Kohli's wife, I feel she would not get that much limelight in recent years as she rarely gave any solo hit except for BBB with Ranveer in 2010.

- Kangana Ranaut - This lady has only 4 or 5 hits in career of 15-16 years. I have never seen any fans of Kangana in real life nor was she ever hot property as a brand ambassador. Since last 6 years she makes news only for her online statements, interviews or personal life controversies. I feel she has not given any significant or good film post TWMR and would have been forgotten if not for daily headlines she makes due to her faltu statements online.

- Dangal girls - Never saw anyone talk about them in real life. Fatima is most thanda of them all and still does not register on minds of public despite rumours of affair with Aamir Khan.

- Tripti Dimri - I doubt if anyone even knows her name in real life.

- Sonam Kapoor - Absolutely no relevance or fans in real life, no acting skills. Only hyped online for so called fashion sense or social media posts or controversial interviews. I doubt anyone would pay attention to her if she was not Anil's daughter.

- Swara Bhasker - Known only for tweets now. I doubt if people would recognise her by her name. At the most they may remember her as girl from PRDP, TWM, TWMR.

Who else you think is mainly an online/social media or mediamade/PR made 'star' but not much successful or talked of or known in real life?

Swara Bhaskar is the most annoying one. She has done no work of note but has an inflated ego.

Sanya was good in badhai ho and ludo

sushmita has made a successful comeback in aarya. I love how she conducts herself with grace

I disagree about Tapsee.

Her filmography since 2016 has been really good, and you're conveniently ignoring the fact that she works in Telugu films too by relegating her to a "Thappad" and "Pink" because she's been moderately successful in Telugu industry as well, both critically and commercially.

She may not be a crowdpuller like Hema Malini or Sridevi, but she has become a headliner on her own accord👍🏼 by carving a niche for herself. So, she is certainly a bit more than an "online star".

And Yes, Sushmita was never hailed as "superstar", but her off-screen image has been consistently positive since the 90s. And despite her flops (and not getting any major films), her off-screen image has not altered at all.

In fact post Aarya, she has regained her popularity.👏

This is why I called them online stars only. Sushmita has long ceased to be relevant in real life. And Taapsee has more hype online due to subjects she chooses such as Mulk, Thappad, Rashmi Rocket, Pink etc or her interviews and tweets but hardly has a following among masses like Alia or even Shabana Azmi of yesteryears. I do not think she has had box office pull of Vidya Balan either who had hits like TDP, Kahani, Parineeta, Bhool Bhulaiya etc. I have never seen Taapsee posters or fandom anywhere outside the internet.

I totally agree on Kartilk Aryan. Most overhyped online but rarely talked of in real life nor a real life draw at box office. I have never even seen anyone discuss his potential as an actor the way people used to discuss potential of young SRK, Aamir, Shahid, Ranveer, Ranbir, Akshaye Khanna and Vivek Mushran (post Saudagar).

I honestly did not even know his name until Sara harped on his name in KWK.

"Online world" is as important as offline world for actors of today. We're living in a digital age.

Everyone is on mobile phones/internet.

You don't need big posters, advertisements on road or highways to prove you're a superstar.

Some high profile TV actors of Balaji TV shows have those too, and they maybe more familiar to aam janta today but that doesn't make them superstars.

And just because Taapsee is working in some socially relevant films, her credibility, talent or contribution to those films means nothing? What logic is that?

It's like saying, Ayushman is only popular because of his socially relevant films otherwise he is talent-less.

I understand the idea of false "superstar" image like Vidyut Jamwal But Taapsee is not that arena.

No one is saying that she has a BO pull equivalent to a superstar. The era of superstars is dead anyways. It's about content and credibility.

Taapsee herself has said in several interviews that she wants to become credible enough so that people go and watch her films, that's why she is choosing the right kind of projects and getting noticed. Comparing her graph from where she started off, her growth has been amazing 👍🏼 and she will always be remembered for having a very good run between 2016-2020. (& possibly more)

Besides, India has over 138 crore population and 4000+ cities. So, unless we've proof that no one knows Taapsee except "online" audience, don't generalize.

About Susmita, the kind of craze she saw in the 90s as a personality is unparalleled. I doubt she cares much about reviving BW career. BW standards have gone to the dogs anwyays. OTT is better for her.
