Bold2: Idk bro, I feel like the mother-son angle would've done well even today on tv. Like it's so gross and pseudo-incest-ish, and it is shown to be legitimately creepy- not "aw how sweet, he loves his mom". She's a manipulative person and it's never even implied otherwise. We have a lot of serials where the mother is straight up evil, or just is particular about having a bahu of her choice. Ishwari on the other hand legitimately thinks of Dev as her husband, not her son. It's an interesting angle to show on tv today in my opinion.

Dev is very territorial and knows what’s his to protect. He didn’t get anything in childhood & in his head the reason for that was because they didn’t have money or power. Now he has both and has shown to buy everything with the same. He does that with everyone and later he does that for Sona too, who teaches him that not everything can be bought.
Dev has never been called out by anyone for throwing money around or being rude and unacceptable, but Sona does. Multiple times. I liked how none of this was romanticized. And even though you don’t find it right, one understands why he does it.

I wonder why ITV never shows a mother who is obsessed with her daughter? Honestly at this point we are so exhausted with ITV that I think we'll skip watching shows altogether (we as in Mum and I).

I'll bookmark that blog. Thanks for the link.

Would it really? Honestly I don't know much about ITV, haven't watched anything in years. But my general impression is that other shows have out-and-out negative/evil characters.

This is where KRPKAB differs imo. Like Ishwari is possessive and manipulative for sure. But she isn't a bad person overall. She actually genuinely likes Sona as a person until they start dating. And then later again post leap.

My biggest complaint about this show is the lack of a good redemption track for Dev. He apologizes to Sona many times but he isn't really shown choosing Sona over his mother. It's Ishwari who makes the effort to accept Sona.

I think they barely touched that topic, because post leap it’s seen that Dev was very detached and was fed up with Ish’s interference in general. That’s why he also doesn’t notice (during office track) that Ish has been staying out of the house most of the time. It’s Sona who notices and she also notices that Ish doesn’t wait for him anymore for dinner etc etc. I think they wanted to show Sona as the thread that keeps Dev and Ish’s relationship untangled in the end. So I think those 7 years Dev chose Sona over Ish, every single day. But not in front of her, that’s right.

He did stop being Ishwari's "raja beta" in his own words. I'm glad we got to see that.

But I would have liked to see him standing up to Ishwari (in front of Sona) before the Khatri track.

What is Suhana wasn't there and if Sona hadn't solved Ishwari's problem. Would Ishwari still accept her? Would have loved to see if Dev would have still said to Ishwari that I still love my wife and want to be with her, regardless of her ability to be a mother or be the kind of bahu you want.

I agree actually. Very rarely do I like a show after a leap. But this show only got better IMO

Dev loved Soha and was a dotting father, but the fire within him to be there with Sonakshi was something else. He could never take his eyes off her. It was perfect, just perfect.

I agree with you, I think Ish’s redemption was also seeing how happy and changed person Dev is when he’s around Sona (post leap). Also, during the wedding itself she was happy, GKB/Neha/Vicky had a huge hand in instigating and feeding Ish’s insecurities, thus making it very difficult for Ish to see Sona as an addition to the family instead of a competition. So definitely spending more time outside the house, giving Dev/Sona the space (ultrasound track) post leap was her way of saying sorry.

Like Ishwari somewhere knows she has wronged her daughter but I don't know if she will repent for it. Likewise since this is just the beginning... Dev will make even more "doings" like these...yet there would hardly be any repentance. In fact he will get the girl too. So at the end how do the viewers know what they have done is not right?

Aaj ke dino mein yeh show aata...toh Ishwari and Dev meme material bann jaate. I know it was criticised and mocked back then too... I used to read on BWF about this show. But I'm particularly talking about THIS time. The characters would've faced a severe backlash.

Selective viewing is the best way to watch ITV shows. I remember watching krp on a friend's daily insistence, but I found the pace to be slow & story to be too cliche initially. Frankly, during my first time viewing, I used to skip most scenes and watch Sona & her family's scenes cuz they resonated well with me😆 Uske bawajood, I never felt that I didn't know what's happening in the show cuz in any ITV show, you can skip a few eps and still know everything happening lol..but slowly devakshi grew on me.. and I realised the progression was slow but perfectly timed, and their slow burn will surely make you feel the butterflies.. although by the end of the series, Dev turned out to be an utter disappointment & I sorta love to hate him (ik there are many dev fans here, pls don't take offence:) ). I think more than storyline, kuch rang is so highly rated because of execution & how the subtle they kept the story. They did overdo Dev-Ish angle at one point, but it was a necessity for a story to exist... Stay patient with the show, cuz the show will become an addiction after a point😉

What is your fave ITV show? Maybe that could help me gauge your liking in storylines.. :')

Yes... I think it would blend easily in terms of story...but maybe the way they are presenting it... that would differ. I see so many shows on ITV now where makers are showing how a mother and son's bond is pure... mother's are possessive...etc etc. Earlier ITV shows used to show the saas bahu angle mostly...but now it seems the new trend is either cheating or this maa-beta and unwanted bahu angle.

Let's see. From S3 itself I gauged it that they would hardly make this character Dev repent for his mistakes. Everything was hurriedly brushed under the carpet for the entry of the third angle over there... let's see what is the reason here.

I'll try to watch this patiently then 😆

My fav ITV show.... I have watched many tbh. But from the ones that I have watched... I would say SGP is my most fav. It had the right amount of drama as well as romance. One of the best supporting cast too.

Though the genre was not my cup of tea... I ended up watching and laughing at N3 too 😆 but from that show the character of Mahir.... I still remember him. Easily one of the best husbands or lovers from recent shows. He was a human and rest everyone ended up being some supernatural character yet his character stood tall amongst all. The makers had n number of opportunities to butcher his character...but Mahirji was never out of character. He only went off track post his memory loss track...even then he never crossed a line. It's just post memory loss he never came back to normalcy and then EK mata showed the stupid rebirth track.

Also loved Dehleez....

Can't remember other shows...which had drama.

I remember I loved SGP, although I must say I was very young when it aired and I don’t remember the storyline. Does anyone know where I can rewatch it?

Lol, do you think KRPKAB kick-started that mother-son trend? Wouldn't surprise me if it did.

I agree with you about it not being an out of the world story. At the core, it's still a saas-bahu issue. What is different is how well formed and realistic the characters are and how cute the love story is.

Some scenes feel like they came straight out of a good book. Durjoy is a novelist first and it shows.

I know Ishwari makes you feel like skipping her scenes. Be patient though, and you'll get to watch some amazing, tender, heart-touching moments that still make us keep coming back. 😊
