He's no different than the regular MLs I see... arrogant... trying to buy everything with money. Such a predictable but cheap move.

How is Saurabh so unemployed.... how could Bijoy go so wrong with this one? Looks like it's the effect of the indulgent parent, Asha.

And all this will be romanticized too in the upcoming episodes...how he bullied her into working as his personal nurse...her profession,skills be damned. Fans ko sirf love story ki beginning hi dikhegi yaha...

This serial would've received a backlash in today's time... especially these episodes and the whole mother-son angle. The makers are lucky they came up with this when there was not much craze on SM as there is now after lockdown period.

Bold 1: He's genuinely an asshole when it comes to his mother, like he doesn't give a damn who he has to tear down to get the job done. The whole bullying thing is so true, but I don't think it's romanticized at all. She calls him out on it multiple times, and they all consistently maintain that it's wrong- but he doesn't care.

Bold2: Idk bro, I feel like the mother-son angle would've done well even today on tv. Like it's so gross and pseudo-incest-ish, and it is shown to be legitimately creepy- not "aw how sweet, he loves his mom". She's a manipulative person and it's never even implied otherwise. We have a lot of serials where the mother is straight up evil, or just is particular about having a bahu of her choice. Ishwari on the other hand legitimately thinks of Dev as her husband, not her son. It's an interesting angle to show on tv today in my opinion.

Bold- I think you will be pleasantly surprised by some aspects of it. But i do agree that Dev is being an absolute spoilt rich brat here thinking he has any right to demand all this from Sona. Which is ironic considering his background 😂

Keep watching! The best part about this show is that it never pretends to be anything other than what it is. Is Ishwari super manipulative? Absolutely. Is Dev a colossal jerk? Heck yes!

And yet they aren't evil people. They are exactly that - humans. Or at least as close to real people as characters can be in ITV. You'll see exactly why Sona (and the rest of us) fell in love with Dev despite his 10,000 flaws.

I feel it would have more competition due to streaming platforms. But honestly people bashed the mother-son duo back then too. If you wanna read some really good analysis, you can try Tia's thread. But I can only find the blog which starts from well after the leap. Just linking it for reference.

I saw what he's capable of when it comes to his mother. S3 was a mini trailer. My point is makers making a character repeat that doings of Ishwari or Dev are/were wrong hold no impact if they don't make the characters repent for it. Like Ishwari somewhere knows she has wronged her daughter but I don't know if she will repent for it. Likewise since this is just the beginning... Dev will make even more "doings" like these...yet there would hardly be any repentance. In fact he will get the girl too. So at the end how do the viewers know what they have done is not right?

Aaj ke dino mein yeh show aata...toh Ishwari and Dev meme material bann jaate. I know it was criticised and mocked back then too... I used to read on BWF about this show. But I'm particularly talking about THIS time. The characters would've faced a severe backlash.

No. If it came out now ..it would blend just as easily. Just have a look at the other shows on ITV... every other show has either a bad ML or a ML with an obsessive mother of a son...though I doubt even they would go as low as Ishwari's character did.

I wonder why ITV never shows a mother who is obsessed with her daughter? Honestly at this point we are so exhausted with ITV that I think we'll skip watching shows altogether (we as in Mum and I).

I think - in general - this show is different, because nobody is openly plotting against each other (not talking about S3). The reason why certain situations occur is mainly because of the different shades of love. The love a mother has for her son, a son has for his mother, a man has for a woman, a woman has for a man, a father has for his daughter.

The beauty is that all characters in the show are realistically flawed. The writers didn't try to force their idea of right and wrong on us. They presented all sides and it was upon the viewer to decide who or what they agreed with more. It asked us to think rigorously, read between the lines, and interpret things from our respective vantage points.
