Personally, the whole concept of a Rakhi brother is bizarre at best and unhealthy gender socialization at worst.
I remember being in school in India and it was a thing to buy a ton of rakhis and tie it to so many guys. There is this whole notion that girls and guys cannot or shouldn't be friends, which makes young women feel pressure that they need to make someone their brother to preserve their reputation or prevent gossip. I know girls who tied rakhi to boys they had a crush for that reason. As if tying a rakhi will somehow magically change the attractions you have to someone. I also remember a poor guy running away because a girl he liked wanted to tie him rakhi. Everyone thought it was funny and forced him to get the rakhi tied - I laughed too. Now that I look back, I'm like poor guy. We were the ones making a mockery of a ritual, he was trying to avoid it.
It is ok to have crushes and even date. It is ok for boys and girls to be friends. Boys and girls can hang out together without being pseudo siblings.
Tying a rakhi has meaning. The concept of brother and sister has meaning. It is completely possible to develop a brother-sister-like bond between friends, and a rakhi brother makes sense only in this situation - where both the guy and the girl feel a platonic bond of protection and familial affection.
And even if you did get peer pressured or societally pressured to tie a rakhi and now find yourselves attracted to each other - it's fine - go for it. It's not as if you're blood relatives.
