The Padma Shri award, announced each year on Republic day, is the fourth highest civilian award, which is awarded to the citizens of India who made a distinguished contribution in fields such as arts, education, industry, literature, science, sports, medicine, social service and public affairs. Like each year, the list of awardees for 2020 included some prominent names from the entertainment industry. Celebrities like Karan Johar, Ekta Kapoor, Kangana Ranaut and Adnan Sami are being conferred this prestigious award for their performance in the field of art and films. Going by the reactions on social media to this announcement, some names came as a surprise to netizens.

Here’s a list of all Bollywood celebrities that've received the Padma Shri in the past:

1. Shah Rukh Khan

King Khan has given many notable performances in movies like Devdas, Chak De India, Swades and many more. The superstar received the Padma Shri in 2005.

2. Aamir Khan

The actor and director has been the recipient for many awards such as Filmfare, National Film award and an Academy nomination too. He was conferred with the Padma Shri award in the year in 2003 as well as the Padma Bhushan in 2010.

Saif Ali Khan rose to fame with iconic roles in movies such as Dil Chahta Hai and Kal Ho Na Ho. He won the Padma Shri in 2004.

4. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan

One of the most successful actresses and winner of the 1994 Miss World Pageant, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was conferred with the Padma Shri by the Government of India in the year 2009.

5. Amitabh Bachchan

The 77-year-old veteran superstar won the Padma Shri in 1984 as well as the Padma Bhushan and Padma Vibhushan in 2001 and 2015 respectively.

6. Akshay Kumar

The actor who has starred in more than 100 films since the '90s has proved to be one of the most successful in the industry. He received the Padma Shri award in the year 2009.

7. Madhuri Dixit

The evergreen actress who was one of the highest paid actresses from the late '80s to the early '00s, was conferred with the Padma Shri award in 2008.

8. Irrfan Khan

Irrfan Khan

The actor, who was awarded the Padma Shri in 2011, has been critically acclaimed for many of his roles in movies such as Haider, Piku, Talvar and many more.

9. Kajol

The actress has given some iconic performances in films like Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, Baazigar, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and she was conferred the Padma Shri in 2011.

10. Vidya Balan

The actress who has been a pioneer when it comes to female-led films in the industry with movies such as No One Killed Jessica, Kahaani, The Dirty Picture. She received the Padma Shri in the year 2014.

11. Kamal Haasan

The actor and producer, who has made a notable contribution in the Tamil and Hindi film industry. He received the Padma Shri in 1990 and the Padma Bhushan in 2014.

12. Tabu

Tabu was conferred the Padma Shri in the year 2011. She has given many critically acclaimed performances such as Maqbool, Cheeni Kum, Haider and Andhadhun.

13. Paresh Rawal

The actor-comedian has been a part of an array of hit bollywood films such as Hera Pheri, Andaz Apna Apna, Welcome, Hungama, Bhool Bhulaiyaa. He received the Padma Shri in 2014.

14. Anupam Kher

The actor has appeared in over 500 films in his career and was conferred with the Padma Shri in 2004 and also the Padma Bhushan in 2016.

15. Sanjay Leela Bhansali

The director, producer, screenwriter and music director was awarded the Padma Shri in 2015. He has directed commercially successful and acclaimed films such as Devdas, Black, Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam.

16. Sridevi

The late actress, who was regarded as the “first female superstar” of Indian cinema received the Padma Shri award in 2013.

17. Hema Malini

Dream girl, who was one of the highest paid actresses from 1974 to 1980, was conferred the Padma Shri award in the year 2000.

18. Rekha

The actress, known for playing strong female characters, has won many awards for roles in movies like Khubsoorat, Khoon Bhari Maand and Umrao Jaan. She won the Padma Shri in 2010.

19. Helen

The actress and iconic dancer, who appeared in over 700 films, was awarded the Padma Shri award by the Government of India in 2009.

So I do believe Kangana equally deserve it, She may be anything But She is definitely a better actor than Many from the list,

Rekha received it in 2010 and Sridevi received it in 2013, while the likes of Saif, SRK, Akshay, Kajol, Aishwarya etc received it way before them. Rajeev Gandhi received Bharat Ratna before Sardar Vallabhai Patel. Lol, enough said!

At least all these actors are conscious of their public image and do not go around spewing venom on other people.

The way Kangana has behaved publicly in the past year was utterly disgusting, & shameful.

She has to be hold accountable for her actions.

"Padma Shree" is a civilian award, not an "acting" award. It was still believable that Kangana won the National Award for Best Actress, but Padma Shree?

From abusing everyone in the Bollywood, to comparing herself with Meryl Streep, Marlon Brando, Rihanna etc. Kangana has only embarrassed herself and used social media in the worst possible way.

She has added nothing "extraordinary" to the world of cinema OR country, apart from hate-mongering and creating more divide in the country.

Manikarnika has become a pathetic excuse for her all wrong deeds, and it wasn't even that great of a film.🥱 Laxmi Bai was respected even before Manikarnika was made.

Same for Thalaivi.

I can still understand Madhuri and SRK. They certainly took the nation by storm in the 90s.

Madhuri became a cultural icon nationally. SRK became the face of Bollywood internationally. So, they get credits for that.

but Kajol and Saif? That's just beyond me.

Coming to Aish. She literally won Miss World, and became the first BW actress with legit international appeal. I don't understand the problem with her haters. 🤪

She is dragged in every thread/conversation for no reason.
