Aarohi vs Akshara - why one has more substance than the other! - Page 14

guess you missed my posts... I suggest you read all of them first (in this thread). If you still have any questions/opinions I would be happy to clarify.

The summed up point is that there is more to explore in Aarohi, than Akshara. Her character (aarohi's) could make the story more interesting than Akshara's.

From the first few episodes I have summarised both sisters as below:

Akshara :

(pros) simple , happy go lucky types , good singer , has panic attacks , trying to explore herself.

(Cons).: even after staying with her sister , cannot decipher that her sister dosent like her . A small kind gesture from her sister , akshara is on cloud nine. On the way to be reincarnation of original akshara.

The scene where she gives grains to poor was ott.h

Arohi

Pros : ambitious, headstrong .

Cons : self centered , arrogant, unkind and uncaring. On the way to be next komolika.

Arohi could have shown a bit of care for akshara when she was having panic attack. That small gesture would have immensely helped her character growth.

At present there is nothing much to explore in both the girls.There is only black and white .No grey.

She has a bitter past and rough exterior it would have been wonderful to see through that. Maybe if the had explore abhimanyu and aarohi more. I understand your pov. If it was just her feeling of being unloved or the constant need to outshine her sister , insecurities branching out from constant comparisons with her sister , I would have preferred her story. But within this few episodes they have shown that she has a very mean streak . She knew her sister has anxiety issues , yet pressurise her to leave country .During panic attack just to be in abhis good book she acts all good with no care for her sister , who just had a panic attack.That zero care or even concern for a fellow human being a doctor herself , puts her in a bad light.

We already have n no of stories of good girls. I actually realised that there are no such stories of complex girls who are leads. And here too iam not expecting any miracles from makers , for the sole reason they don't know how to deal with grey characters. And also majority audience want to see good vs bad.No in between.

Aarohi seems like she could have more shades to her personality than akshara.. more 'substance'.. She is seen as competitive but is also cooperative and accommodating with her bros and Akhilesh, she is bitter with akshu but is also nice with the rest of the family. She's driven to be no. 1 always because she is vulnerable to what place people give her in their lives. What appears on the surface with aarohi is not the whole. But with akshu she is just plain good and kind. Whatever issues she has can be easily understood.. One doesn't need to put much effort or think too much with her. Aarohi is interesting, when she's around people won't be bored. She's like some over-rich dish that is delicious but might disagree with one's digestion. Akshu is like what one would feed small children, completely healthy but bland. 😛

But this is just how we want to see aarohi... makers are going to paint her uniformly black and akshu uniformly white because that is what viewers prefer apparently or perhaps what they will understand.

Plz fill in the blanks for me as i just started watching post the leap... Arohi is mean to akshara bec she blames the later for her mothers death . As far as I know and I have seen a little bit , pre leap when sirat was alive , arohi always talks badly to akshara. I would prefer a gray character but arohi is just another vamp who doesn't need a reason to take revenge . Akshu is not her real sister , anyways sibling rivalry is an interesting concept, plus , step siblings may have kind of a bitter relation but I don't understand why would arohi hate akshara when akshara was always so good to her ? It's not like akshu killed sirat.

Arohi not only doesn't have a good reason to hate akshara , she has superiority complex too and puts akshu down at every moment. She should be grateful to the goenka family, and her brothers for loving her when she doesn't reciprocate the same way...So I don't agree that she has any substance ..she has psychological issues and being a doctor it's serious for her...

In yrhpk the girls shared the same kind of relation. They didn't fall in love with the same guy but the other sister hated her sibling so much that she didn't want her in the same house after marriage .... She was jealous of her getting all love and attention.. here the parents r not alive to show any bias. Do the goenkas do that ?

Okay let's break it down.

Sirat was running after Akshara when she died. Aarohi was there and saw this. Now she was young and witnessing something like that is traumatic to say the least... she went on to blame Akshara because of the circumstance in which her mother died.

Her being mean before as well? Yes she was because but I am going to chalk it up to kids being kids. She wanted her parents to focus on her... childish behaviour. Moreover, Aarohi was not blind to the way everyone treated her mother, like on person themselves said Sirat was always seen as Naira's "replacement" and hence she was treated that way as well.

Akshara was good to Aarohi but Aarohi has not dealt with her trauma to forgive Akshara in her mind she is still responsible for her mothers death and something like that is very hard to get over. Aarohi has not been able to deal with her trauma so she is projecting it in two ways

1. Academic sucess (she thrives on being number 1 because she has always felt number 2 in the house and she has always seen her mother being treated as number 2...she said this herself)

2. Bitter words and anger (trauma can come in various forms for Akshara it is more conventional panic attacks... for Aarohi it is more self destructive. She pushes people away)

Now why was she not able to deal with her trauma in so many years..... THE GOENKAS! despite living in the house, the family was always akshara's first. they immediately shut aarohi up when she spoke against akshara and coddled the latter like she was the most delicate thing in the world. That is why for Aarohi the best three years of her life were when Akshara was not in the house.

No one wanted to understand why she is so angry, so resentful. They just shut her up and reprimand her and then coddle Aksahra She is the way she is because she does not feel cared for or loved.

YES the goenkas do that, they have been ever since sirat stepped into that house, since aarohi was born and till now! Nothing has changed.

The substance now shows because she is not the typical FL like Akshara is. The actress who plays Aarohi (karishma) is doing a much better job than Pranali who is only making Akshara more irritating 🤪

What can I say? I like akshara more ..and the actress too....

If arohi couldn't get over the trauma and Jealousy and all the issues , it's her problem. She is takin it off on akshara , that's where she is wrong . All this may be look normal it's not..akshara is traumatized with the thought of arohi not being able to accept her . She is the victim for me and arohi is the perpetrator. Always the weak is coddled ..arohi herself was pushing the goenkas towards akshu. Did arohi grew up? No..mentally she is still a petulant child..

As for the past , goenkas never treated naira nicely per se...for them, their sons r #1 , naira or sirat always will come second third.... Sirat was happy with kartik and vice versa..if anyone treated sirat badly, akshu is not responsible for it... If somebody could sit and make arohi understand, I dun think she would...she sees the world from her perspective only n I dont see any layers as of yet.....Her nature is diff n like I said, I think she is suffering from a lot of psychological issues. Sibling rivalry may be common but not ok..its very easy to blame others for their condition ..the easiest way out...n blaming is also fine.. acting upon the hatred which causes harm to the other person when they r nothing but good to you?

Haan I don't like akshara in a way that she will always be a doormat around arohi. I hate such behavior..the forever suffering bechari girl ..she will also be one dimensional which is sad. If Dr abhimanyu makes up for it , we'll and good , otherwise I am out after their marriage ..can't watch prolonged mu and character butchering 😆

You have to understand there were two leaps. Before the first one while sirat's story was going on.. that was for about 9 months, we saw that the goenkas looked down upon her and her family background . She didn't have much of it too, just her nani who brought her up and her mum who abandoned her when she was 5 but the child was witness to her extra marital affair from before that too. Sirat was neglected and mentally and emotionally abused by her mum who saw her as the reason for her unfulfilled life. Then after she left her for the guy who becomes sirat's stepdad, her father dies from the grief. She is bullied in school, tortured by the mum and stepdad who continue to live in the same building as herself and her nani. She even tries to commit suicide once but is saved by a boy who then becomes her close friend, and who introduces her to boxing.. So then boxing becomes her passion, her refuge and later her career. When she comes into the goenka parivar it is out of majboori because of kairav who mistakes her for his dead mother.. And he is a heart patient and when the stress takes its toll, kartik requests her to come and live with them for some time till kairav gets well. Aage story chalti hai with lots of twists and drama...eventually she marries into the family but manish goenka is always against the marriage. He doesn't loose an opportunity to put her down and show that she comes from a 'neech' family and somehow finds her guilty for her mother's wrongs instead of sympathizing and recognizing the strength of her character that enabled her to rise above all that and become a good human being inspite of it. When she conceives aarohi, manish's first concern is that the baby will have the ganda khoon of its maternal family. And even later while the girls are growing up he would always bellyache over it.

After the first leap, the girls are in their pre teens. Initially akshu doesn't know that sirat is her stepmom. Akshu is shown as someone who is overly clingy to her younger sis and aarohi was like the independent miss who wanted to do everything on her own while akshu wanted to share. Nothing of conflict then.. Just two very different personalities. Then akshu comes to know that sirat is not her real mum and though she is upset at first but quickly comes to terms with it. Aarohi too is concerned for her sister at first but later as she sees that her mum and akshu share a special bond she becomes jealous. She grows more in this feeling because sirat's mom comes in between and poisons her mind about how akshu will always be first with the family because her mother was most loved and sirat was never given that position and that izzat. To back her up in this aarohi also sees and hears manish explaining to akshu about how wonderful her mother and her naniyal is and how low-born and undeserving aarohi's naniyal is. And it continues like that. To make matters worse sirat makes the mistake of not explaining to aarohi about her maternal background and why she wasn't allowed to meet them. She only tells her she will explain later. But in the meantime sheela continues her brainwashing secretly and manish continues to put sirat down openly. Then suddenly that accident happens and aarohi loses her mother. Then her father. She never learns the whole truth about her mother's family. So the seeds of the conflict are sown and now we have the second leap. Aarohi feels akshu is responsible for her mother's death and akshu just makes matters worse by running after her all the time. From what I understood so far, leaving the upcoming drama with Abhimanyu aside, aarohi just wants to not have to deal with akshu at all, she doesn't want to live that relationship with her. Otherwise she hasn't been actively trying to hurt her. Its only when akshu thrusts herself into aarohi's life that she rips into her and tells her to stay away. Lekin aage kya hoga.. 🤷‍♀️

Arohi has unresolved childhood trauma . But is it right to validate her mean selfish behaviour towards akshu on the basis of that. Should arohi not held responsible for her actions?

Arohi projects her frustrations by hurting and belittling akshara. But it cannot be justified , especially when her sister is nothing but kind to her.its like arohi have found a convenient excuse to hurt akshara.

If she feels unloved why don't she address the issue instead of taking it on akshara.why don't she question goenkas , their attitude and parenting ways. Why going after the soft target ? Instead of getting promise from akshu secretly why didn't she ask her grandparents to send akshu back? She will not dare to do that. Because she has this unhealthy need to keep her good image intact. Which is again clear in the recent abhi akshu panic attack scene.And this comes under being two faced , not an attribute of woman with substance.

Akshara currently being blissfully unaware of her sisters true feelings makes her unrealistic and dumb. (Again not a feature of woman with substance).Come on , she literally ask you to get out of their home , yet she cannot decipher that her sister has strong resentment towards her?

About actress both are doing a decent job.

I am so happy that this topic is really discussed for more than a week.

Character analysis this deep on both the FLs is so interesting.

The main thing helping is the Actress playing Arohi(Karishma?). Her portrayal is (at least ) likable to many. Making every one hope that she doesn't turn completely evil. Pranali's job is almost a little bit easy. She is the goody two shoes. Her pain is more visible. Her happiness is more visible. and The ML fell in love with her. she is in limelight.

It is always hard to play a character with negative traits. You know villain is acted good when:

1. Every one hates that character and mostly can not be redeemed(Ex: Vanraj from Anupama)

2. Most of the people does not agree with that person's work but still sympathize and try to find a way a fictional character can be redeemed. (Ex: Maya from Behadh.. although she started as a grey[?] character the writers were sure they wanted her to be completely black by the end.)

Many a times playing a grey character shows the acting capabilities of an actor.

But in reality, I feel the writers will not take this much deep into the character's psyche. From what I have seen, This is just your simple love triangle with toxic family. I really do not have much hope for the story.

And from what I have seen ITV does not do much awareness of mental health and character flaws. They are not much into trauma induced behaviors. ITV generally do not exactly do things outside the box. I do not say that there are no writers who do not show that these thing but they are really less. And problem is that those type of shows get easily axed of because of low TRPs.

For them there is no such thing as unrecognizable traumatic effect on a person. There is no long term effect if it is not affecting the physically.

Coming back to the topic,

Yes, Arohi can be a layered and complex character. But in the end, she will not be. The clue is in love triangle they are already setting up. She will definitely think that Akshara took something which was rightfully hers.

But seriously, except the acting, aren't these characters a bit caricaturistic.

You have the good girl, the self centered girl, The trophy boyfriend/husband.

No one gets a prize while guessing who gets whom.
