Brimming with pride he joyfully chalked her name on the wall of her home, one she could call her own ...
happy tears kept flowing as she looked around to let the overwhelming sense of fulfilment sink in...
A new beginning to a new life, the feeling was surreal..
and what made it all the more special is his companionship in her new journey...as a friend, a guide and perhaps even more but she shrugged the thought away...
She was excited to start a new life, where she was Anupama, a free bird...the feeling was indescribable...she started to touch the walls to get a feel of her new house, to make them her own...she looked out of the window to feel the soothing breeze and the setting rays of the sun that promised her a new start the next morning...
Leaning his head on one of the walls he crossed his arms and lovingly watched her be herself, be the happy self that she once used to be...he knew how sacred this moment was for her and he was happy to be a part of it...
“Anu samaan lene maa ke ghar jaana hai ya abhi se yahin rehne ka plan hai?” he asked jokingly...she laughed at his silly comment and said “haan saamaan toh Samar le ayega, sochti hoon ruk hi jaao abhi se” and they laughed together this time...
Next morning, Anuj came with Devika to pick them up and just as they were ready to leave, Anu’s mum called Anuj over to the side...Anuj didnt know how to react and quietly followed her to the side and she handed him a bag...” ye kya hai maaji?” asked Anuj curiously trying to get a sneek peek at the contents of the bag... “kuch zyada nahi beta, bas ek chota sa tohfa hai tumhare liye” said Anu’s mum in reply. “ mere liye? tohfa? kyu?” he suddenly started to tear up a little thinking of his own mum. “ arey kyu kya, mai Bhavesh, Samar aur Anu ke liye Diwali ke kapde le rahi toh maine socha ye rang tum par bohot jachega isliye maine tumhare liye le liya” his tears were visible by now...” maa ji aaj tak GK ne hi meri maa ki kami poori ki thi, ab lag raha hai mujhe sach mein meri khoyi hui maa milgayi” he bent to take her aashirwaad and when he raised his head he saw Devika standing behind her, winking at him.. she then leaned over and whispered “arey waah saasuma ka ashirwaad bhi le liya, sahi jaa raha tu toh yaar! “ Anuj smiled and said “ chup kar” and dragged her out with him.
“itni der kyu lag gayi maa?, kuch hua hai kya?” asked Anu worriedly, looking at Anuj’s slightly red eyes...” Anu tu faltu mein har cheez ka tension leti hai, kuch nahi hua hai yaar, naa maa ko aur na Anuj ko” Devika winked at Anu and she rolled her eyes to scold Devika ...Anuj couldnt stop smiling when he saw them in the rear view mirror.
“Mummy kuch aur lana hai Diwali ke liye?” asked Samar as they pulled up at the new house...Anu got out of the car with Samar while Devika helped Anu’s mum and lead her to the house “ haan woh phool lane hai aur wo kya kehte hain...chocolate milk! ...haan uske liye chocolate” Anuj heard that and grinned like a cheshire cat. “Chocolate milk? wo kise chahiye mummy? asked Samar innocently and Anu replied “ mujhe chahiye bas? tu bas le aa na beta” she exclaimed making Anuj dance in his seat...” accha phir hum thodi der mein phool leke aate hai, aap log andar jayiye” said Samar and sat in the car with a confused look and Anuj thought to himself and muttered “chocolate milk mere liye hai buddy” ...” kuch kaha Anuj aapne?” asked a further confused Samar” ...”nahin, chalo phool le aate hai” said Anuj still unable to stop his mile as they drove away...
hawa ke jhoke aaj mausamo se rooth gaye
gulon ki shokiya jo bhawre aake loot gaye
badal rahi aaj zindagi ki chaal zara
isi bahaane kyun na mai bhi dil ka haal zara
sawaar loon... sawaar loon
She chirped and fluttered around like a bird, carefree and serene... he couldnt take his eyes off the magical view...
She watered the plants in the balcony, drew open the curtains to let the fresh air and light seep in...plumped the cushions on the sofa and danced around the whole room taking turns with Devika and her mum and just when Devika let her go, she landed in his arms with the basket of flowers flung high and the petals came showering down on them...
“ Wah kya scene hai! “ shreiked Devika with excitement making them nervous and embarrassed as they quickly unlocked their eyes and arms...
“Happy Diwali” is all he could utter and coyly she replied “ aapko bhi!”
“
