But yeah, mum's told me all this except for the last one (thank you). He's one of the characters that she has a soft spot for I guess. It was one of the first instances I began to see negative characters differently. And now I wonder why Ravan was a villain at all. it's just how the narrative makes you see things.

I mean he was brilliant no doubt but he did abduct someone. He also hurt a messenger which was apparently a war crime . Therefore he was quite a villain

Well that is why mahabharat is more popular in a way as it's about shades of life none being wrong or right.

Ravana teaches us that if u have no control over your anger and ego no matter how great u are u are bought to be doomed.

As after the war rama asks lakshmana to sit by the dying Ravana and learn from him all that he has to teach to which lakshmana says why he's are enemy to which rama says that no matter who it is if there is a quality worth learning u must be humble enough to want to learn and accomadate that within.

Rama too after that went for a short penance as to him along with all the bad qualities of Ravana he had also killed an scholar , a just ruler and a devotee.

Yes that is where the ego come s in role it's that all of rama and Ravana's qualifies are within us it's just ki waqt aane par who do we allow to get the better of us.

Ravana was everything we can imagine but as they say u might have a thousand qualities worth admiring but just one bad quality is enough to doom and make ur life end up in the pits.

Same with Ravana his ego and anger got the better of him and made him commit heinous crime of abducting a pious women even if it was in retaliation to the injustice inflicted on shurpanaka according to him.

Do u know Lakshman rekha was never part of the original Ramayan it's an addition of Tulsidas.

If u ever manage to get hold of pancharatra by bhasa please read it one of our earliest and most beautiful playwriters.

Karanvir bohra yes they carried first 50 or so episodes with just the bare minimum characters. Till HC and family came. One of a kind show. Viraj dobriyal the perfect psycho obsessed villain. Great performance.

My mum always tells me Ravan was killed because he exceeded his limits at one point, but also would continue to praise his qualities and say there would have been no one more powerful than him if he had a little control. But he did have control and honestly it was a fairer battle than others in history.

Thanks again, I think I'm gonna share this with mum.

im glad you like it.

Raavan was actually a very learned pandit. he was granted boons by brahma and shiva, hence why it was so difficult to kill him.

The message of ramayan was actually that you should not want for somehting that is not yours.

The only negative trait raavan had was his ego.

One thing that people often forget is that laxman also humiliated raavans sister and cut her nose. he also acted as a brother to take revenge on those who hurt hsi sister.

Lekin as generations went by iska Chinese whispers ban gaya and there was a stupid misinterpretation bas. It's got nothing to do with god or being impure.

One more u might have heard ki don't cut nails at night. Simple they didn't have electricity back then tho injury ke chances the that's y people used to cut nails only during daytime.

exactly. when i was talking to my mom, or even my elder sisters i gave them the exact same reasoning. and willing or unwilling on case of some of the older women in the family had to agree with me
