My issue is with showing/ normalising obsessive, stalkerish behaviour as ‘intense, angsty love’.That is not love. That is dangerous behaviour that can make a woman’s life extremely scary and uncomfortable and cause her to live on the edge. First of all, it’s not even deep love if it took him a second to cast her out of his life. He made a choice between mother and girlfriend, fine. But then stalking and guilt tripping, creating problems for her fiance etc - no way can this behaviour be labelled ‘love’. It was more like he was jealously guarding a possession that no else should have, even though he didn’t want or couldn’t have it. Dog in the manger attitude.

But Sona did call him a stalker? I don't think the writers implied he was right at least in that track? Ritvik also called him out. So did Bijoy. He said Dev's love is weak and he doesn't deserve Sonakshi. Dev himself admitted in that letter he wrote for Sonakshi that she suffered a lot because of him and she deserves better. The way I see it, I don't think they normalised/glorified his behaviour in the track and I personally enjoyed the angst. And I personally never thought he was right in that track. I could enjoy it without justifying his behaviour in my head because I knew he was wrong. I guess we can agree to disagree because it's fiction and it's fine to have different opinions so I willl stop with this :)

I agree. I don't think anyone (the characters included) is justifying Dev ki Deewangi track. In fact, when Bijoy asks Ishwari to stop Dev from calling Sona repeatedly (when he called her some 15 times in a day), even Ishwari says something like, "Mera beta jailed nahi hai ki itni baar phone kare"... so for once, even Ishwari thought Dev was wrong! 🤣

Dev himself admits to Sona that he's become a dirty stalker.

I don't think you have to 100% agree with a character's actions to enjoy fiction. It's ok to enjoy the angst without glorifying his love or anything like that.

Plus the whole break up track also set stage for what came to be Dev's defining traits for the rest of Season 1 - the fear of losing Sona. That he managed to mess things up again is a different topic altogether. 🤦‍♀️

He sure had a funny way of showing how insecure he was about losing Sona for the rest of season 1, given that it took him another second to throw her out of his life - again ! 😄

That track was normal MCP ITV ML behabiour but presented it in diff way. It was not man handling n all. After all it's a fiction. How can hero let go his heroine.

But my problem with this show was post marriage. They normalised esh behaviour with regard to keeping son away from DIL n continued humiliation of sona in that house. Forcing sona for fertility treatment all shown as normal behaviour. Even after threw sona out from his house, they showed dev blaming as if sona left him. And she had to say sorry. They never made devish realise their mistakes n are never sorry for their action. They made it like if wife forgiving n forgetting mistakes without even asking sorry, husband will lead happy life. That is the message they sent out from this show.

The second time, he didn't throw her out. He did ask her to leave, but in his mind for now- not forever. In the farmhouse, when he's presented that prenup again, he asks Vicky to get rid of it and when his mom asks him to pick his family or to live separately with Sonakshi, he chooses Sonakshi. He even tells Sona that during their big fight. But when she rejects him and leaves, throwing the prenup in his face, he retaliates by trying to hit her where it hurts most- the infertility.

Dev is weak, he's spineless, he's an emotional fool, but I LOVE how none of this is presented as a good trait. He lost Sonakshi because of his own behaviour and he knows it, he taunts Ishwari about her treatment of Sonakshi constantly during that post 7 year period. I like that it's acknowledged, even though I wish the point was driven in further

Well yeah, because his prominent trait remained his inability to stand up to his mother.

It is because of this fear of losing Sona that he hid her reports from both Sona and Ishwari. He knew Ishwari would emotionally blackmail him into giving up on Sona again. Hiding the truth was another major blunder but it definitely stemmed from this fear he had.

I don't think the two things are mutually exclusive.

I do wish the counseling track had touched upon this issue - the only major issue in Dev and Sona's relationship - Issueworry! 🙃

The writers also made Ritvik/Sona/Bijoy call him out in the track. I don't think a male lead/female lead has to be ideal & all sacrificing when he/she is in love and it's okay to mess up and make mistakes. Yes he should have backed off and let her move on but the whole point was that he was selfish, flawed and did not think through the decision and then messed it up (this ties up to Dev telling Sona post leap that he is so pathetic and selfish that he wanted Sonakshi to suffer & be in pain just like he was post their separation). I liked it as a fictional track (does not mean I approve of the behaviour) and I thought the writing/angst/acting was on point. And unlike most TV shows, they did not use Ritvik as a scapegoat to glorify Dev. In fact they made it clear Ritvik was the more mature person. It was also highlighted how friendly his father was (and he did not have a mother) so it was in stark contrast to the situation with Dev which sort of established that he was the ideal choice in every way but the heart wants what it wants. Just clarifying that I don't approve stalking/toxic behaviour but I really enjoyed the track as fiction. That's it 😆

OMG not at all, enjoying something in fiction does not imply that you approve that behaviour. I personally love to watch well written negative & grey characters (but ITV can't really write grey characters well without any inconsistency lol).

My problem with the writing of Dev is the monotony in his behaviour. His cycle annoys me the most. He commits a grave mistake, admits the mistake, but never learns from it. Now he'll defend himself saying "I'm a difficult man to deal with"😆 That just made him repetitive in his actions. And this was exhaustive for me as a lover of Devakshi to watch the vicious cycle go one & on. Not just Dev, even Sona followed a cycle & somehow or the other, their relationship was back to square one.

I love flawed characters, & I believe there's no need to defend them because that's how there are supposed to be. But for Dev (& Sona?) the evolution process was amiss. You can't keep recycling the same old behaviour in a different situation right?

Anyway, kuch rang still managed to stand out amid the crowd of shows having the same storyline with bad execution. Maybe the execution was their X factor & the reason why almost every episode has a high repeat value.

Shaheer is a fantastic actor and very handsome man too.

He is very good looking ...

Calling Sha mediocre acting ... I rally can’t get it

When the script itself is bad ... what can actors do!

Exactly!! How do you manage to interact with these 'dislikers' without losing your mind though? I swear they need to get their power checked.
