In any case he is so expressionless that we as an audience have no clue about Fateh's characterization. Is he just plain dumb or is he as devious as J?

All this makes for a hugely frustrating ride for us the audience, I mean the thinking audience of course!!

It has become a matter of ego for Fateh now. Tejo openly challenged him that he won't be happy with Jasmine ever. Deep inside, he knows that her words will come true one day (or it has already been proven right). So now he wants to do everything, ignore every mistake of Jasmine to prove Tejo wrong. What he doesn't realize is, in his ego trip, he ruining everyone's life and his family's reputation.
