I do not understand this prenup cliche

I am a silent reader.. but this prenup cliche is soooooo overused in many dramas that I am actually confused about it.

Many ITV series have this cliche and it is portrayed as something vile and degrading.

I researched about it and all I understood was it was a deal to keep the financial situation of both the parties safe. It is just a contract mostly aimed so there will be less problem at the time of divorce. I actually can not see why is it so bad. I feel it is a practical decision. The divorce can get really messy. Just preparing ahead if by any chance the marriage is gonna fail. What is so wrong about it?

And besides it is a contract signed by both parties.. giving both of them equal freedom.

If the would be bride reads the contract and she finds certain clauses not her liking she can ask to change or add another clause. And ITV never shows a discussion or reading of this contracts. Even when I have to sign a document to join a new company or join a new scheme I read the offer documents carefully and then sign it.

No one signs without reading.. right?

And Besides most importantly it is not legal in India, then what is this purpose of this whole drama?

Yeah it's not a bad thing and actually a very practical thing. But that is also the problem I guess, the fact that it is too practical. It kind of makes the marriage more like a business contract than a beautiful emotional bond. Plus in this case it feels insulting to the other party (Priya's fam), as it looks like the Kapoor's are already suspicious of the Soods and uncomfortable to make marriage ties with them.

The problem is not the prenup, the problem is when it is shoved down the girl's throat by the guy's family, instead of him, and in a pretty condescending way. That's the only way itv, or any other drama, can use it to create a conflict, if things are otherwise fine between the bride and the groom. Were the guy to directly talk about it to the girl, it would end up being a civil, rational conversation and there wouldn't be a problem.

Even in this show, we can all imagine how the conversation would go if Ram brought up the prenup with Priya in a private setting as opposed to someone like arrogant step-brother and before the family at that. 🤷‍♀️

But going by that logic...

car insurance: "Iss insaan ne gadi garidhi aur gadi kharab hone ke bare me soch raha hai"

life insurance: Iss insaan ne jeena shuru hi ki aur marne ke baad ke baare me soch raha hai"

Maybe it is just me.. but i really don't see it as insulting😕

Preparing for the worst case scenario does not mean that you think this will happen..but this may also happen.

I still do not feel it is that insulting.

But even Ram was kinda against it.. and the whole scene is played out as if the prenup was something vile.

For me Ram reaction was odd. And how come only Priya have to sign the prenup? even Ram have to sign it right?

marriage mei do logo ke emotions jude rehte unme trust hona jaruri hona chahiye aur prenups se kamzor hosakta.

well for me its just another twist to bring Ram-Priya closer or just to create a MU during the period of marriage & might clear off after marriage. I don't take it seriously or logically afterall whatever prenup was plan its going to ruin by their deep love for each other

Prenup is totally justified given the situation now.
