Ekta gave various different roles be it Ram, Manav, Anurag, Prem, Anurag (tere liye) etc. Gul has always been glued to an angry male character who has an abundance of money along with a dark past exclusive for the male. Despite being an irritating person that she is, Ekta gave equal importance to the female leads. (Some times they have more to do than the males) Gul has been stuck with mishandling crap, money buying life wala crap. Sexual tension, hot male with perfect body and money has become an attractive factor ever since then.

Manik Malhotra became a sensation initially for that very reason. We are lucky to have been served with a good plot, otherwise things would have hanged on the edges.

Also, most of the shows nowadays have rich angry young man wala plot. What they look for is the surface rasp. It's not raspy at all honestly. Rich, good looking guys are less attractive in comparison to people who have an amazing mind.
