I think you already got the answer to who she is. This is just my opinion on Neha, that I am penning down here.

Neha was one of the most interesting characters of the show. The audience would sympathize with her as well as be extremely annoyed with her. She was very caustic and resentful towards both Dev and Ishwari, since she held them responsible for being neglected and treated as a second class citizen throughout. At the same time, she is a very loving sister to the younger sisters, Nikki and Riya, and a dutiful daughter to Ishwari. She cares about Dev also. Her layers are really good. She doesn't want to live in poverty as she spent her childhood that way, but she herself is not independent. So she always wanted to marry rich, but ended up marrying a poor guy, which ended in divorce.

Her connection to Sonakshi is most fascinating. Sonakshi was able to reach her and tone her down during some very tense moments and Dev is eternally grateful to Sona for that. None of them could make Neha understand the way Sona could. Sona convinced her to learn English, supported her with Ranveer, convinced her to wear the cheaper lehenga for her wedding etc. Ishwari was also taken aback by how Sona could talk to and convince Neha.

Neha, on her part also regarded Sona very nicely. She understood that Sonakshi was Dev's one true love and she understood that Dev was completely broken, separating from Sona.

Neha and Ishwari's relationship really is the most layered and takes the cake. They both love each other, but at the same time, they always know that Dev is there in between them. As much as Ishwari loves Neha, she will never be on par with Dev. Neha knows this. Neha is the only person in the show, who can stand up to Ishwari and show her the mirror. She is very upfront about all of Ishwari's hypocrisy, especially related to Dev. As much of a happy family the Dixits tried to be, Neha was always there to remind them that they are not perfect. As much as the perfect mother Ishwari projected herself to be, Neha was there to remind her that she wasn't.

And in this aspect, Sonakshi would have been the perfect glue, bringing Neha, Dev and Ishwari together in the real sense. However, as always, Neha's layers were completely destroyed after Devakshi wedding and she was just reduced to a jealous sister-in-law, disliking Sona to the max. That's ITV for you.

After Devakshi wedding, two very interesting characters were destroyed, one was Neha, the other was Elena.

Beautifully penned down👏

@Bold : This is exactly what made me dislike Neha. She was so sensible, so real. She understood the situations like no one else did. Everytime Dev-Ishwari did something, Neha could totally see through it. After Devakshi's break up, when Dev said they were having compatibility issues & Ishwari happily bought into that lie, Neha could see what's going on. She even told Ishwari that she must be happy now that Dev is totally hers again. I think Neha truly sympathized with Sonakshi in that phase. She had the first hand experience of how the Maa Beta treat others who come in between them & felt bad that Sonakshi became another victim like her.

But post Devakshi marriage & her breakup with Ranveer, she suddenly became a whole new person.😳 Suddenly she became so spiteful towards Sonakshi & became GKB's right hand in making Sonakshi's life hell. 😳 What the! 🤦🏻 I can understand she was disturbed by her own marital problems, but how can someone change so much towards the other person whom she liked & sympathized with initially? 🤔 I agree Sonakshi meddling too much into her issues & trying to save her marriage might have irked her, but she started her misbehaviour towards her even before that. Right from the day she came back. I think Sonakshi had come to ask her if she wanted some coffee or smoothies & she humiliated her pretending to ignore her totally & then shouted at her. And since then she totally became spiteful how Sonakshi has everything & she has nothing. I mean seriously? 🙄 She was jealous of her even when she saw Devakshi romancing or Dev going to her house to bring her back. 🤦🏻 Whenever GKB used to plan & plot how to give Sonakshi troubles, she used to look so pleased. During that fake Pregnancy track, when Ishwari was warming up to Sonakshi, Neha even provoked Ishwari saying don't let Bhai so near of Bhabi. He will become Bhabi's puppet & you'll lose him. 😑 SO SO SO contradictory to the initial Neha who used to be irked by the overhyped Maa Beta bond & sympathize with whoever will come to Bhai's life. And on the day of the separation, when Dev threw Sonakshi out, she was so supportive to Ishwari & pleased at the breakup between her Bhai Bhabi. Nikki protested & said what is he saying & Neha scolded Nikki saying she shouldn't interfere in elderly matters & Bhai is doing right.😳 Neha had contributed a lot into Devakshi's trouble & Sonakshi's post marriage misery, all.... for no apparent reason.🙄

Obviously it's inconsistent writing, but the sensible Neha was so short-lived & this spiteful toxic self is so vivid in memory, I relate Neha more to her latter self than the former. That's why I was wishing that she wouldn't be that spiteful towards random people, people who did nothing wrong with her, like she did in original season. Roasting Ishwari is all fine....but being hostile towards Sonakshi or her family or other irrelevant people, I don't think I can stomach that again.🤢

And to add to what you have mentioned, Ishwari never allowed him to enjoy his childhood. She wanted him to focus only on his studies just so that he could get them all out of a life filled with poverty.

Once when Ishwari was working as a maid, she saw from the window of her employer's house, that he was playing cricket with his friends so she deliberately broke her employer's vase and ensured that Dev's attention was on her when she was slapped & scolded by her employer for breaking the expensive case. Through this kind of emotional blackmailing, manipulation & guilt she placed in his young heart, Ishwari literally destroyed his childhood. There is no doubt, he had an equally ( if not more) difficult childhood as Neha though it is also a fact that he was loved & pampered by Ishwari while poor Neha who must have been around 7 or 8 years was neglected & never made to feel a part of their team. She was given the responsibility of looking after her younger sisters, one of which was most probably just a toddler & the other maybe of around 3 to 4 years of age with not one word of appreciation or mention from either Dev or Ishwari even after they became rich and would revisit the past memories. As per them, it was their teamwork ( Dev & Ishwari's) which got them out of poverty. Though Dev did acknowledge that she had a difficult childhood & tried to make up for it by providing her with the best of things, neither he nor Ishwari ever credited her for being an equal partner in their struggle to uplift themselves from a poverty ridden life.

In short, Ishwari was never a good mother to any of her children & her children had a miserable childhood. Luckily for the younger sisters, Riya & Nikki, they had Neha who loved & looked after them & raised them like her own kids.

So she turned bitter due to her childhood. She felt that she wasn't given credit for taking care of her sisters. The sisters too never acknowledged her? That's sad if true.

Even in this season when Ishwari spoke about their struggle infront of Aayush she mentioned just about herself and Dev. Nothing about her daughters. Maybe that's what irks her. I don't know for sure. I could be wrong as I haven't watched the previous seasons.. just trying to understand her mind.

Yes, she is bitter that she was sacrificed for Dev..Ishwari is quite patriarchal in her thinking, where the son is the one who will be the support in old age. She says that she made Dev go to a nicer school and all, because he was the eldest and the brightest and he was their ticket out of poverty.. But among these reasons, is also the reason that Dev was a boy and the rest were girls, and Ishwari always considered him superior.

As much as she genuinely loves Dev and he is her whole world, she guilted him into feeling the same way for her own self. She prefers Dev and herself to live in sort of a bubble, looking out at the world. Any happiness that Dev may obtain elsewhere, whether as a child or as an adult, Ishwari was sure to remind him of his "duties" as the son. I am not sure that vase breaking was intentional. That was an accident, I think? But the result was there for Dev to see.

So in that way, while Dev was the apple of the eye for Ishwari, he struggled a lot, being stifled by her affections, not able to spread his wings for himself, constantly being suffocated by guilt wrapped in love.

It didn't feel that breaking the vase was intentional, though🤔 I think she broke it by mistake because her attention shifted to Dev seeing him play & so she was, for a few moments, careless to her work. The slap & humiliation that followed, embarrassed her because it happened in front of her son.

Remember when she started working at Lakshya's start up & Dev threw a fit over it which Sonakshi didn't understand? Ishwari told Sonakshi how appallingly she was treated by her employers back in her struggling days & clip of that particular scene was shown in flashback. Ishwari seemed truly disturbed over it & even Sonakshi got upset hearing that. I think Ishwari wouldn't be reminiscing that incident to Sonakshi (whom she had gotten so friendly with at that point) if it was deliberately staged by her.

Probably we vilify her a bit too much because of her overall actions😆 Not everything she did was to manipulate Dev. That trait developed later, with time, as she started believing all the flattery that she made Dev successful with her struggles & whatever Dev achieved was only because of her. And so she was equivalent to God as far as Dev's life was concerned & she owns Dev.

Yes, now that I remember Lakshya's job incident, Ishwari was feeling terrible that Dev saw all that. So yeah, that was just an accident.

I do consider her a good mother, who also had a lot of flaws, which were further enhanced by her situation. We tend to vilify her because she claims to be the best mother and her son places her on the pedestal of God, so we see her in that way, realizing that she isn't quite that way at all. She tried to do the best for her kids as an uneducated, widowed maid with four young children. She can be very wise and mature in a lot of ways. She can be kind and sweet. She has always been a character with proper grey shades.

But the fact remains that she loved Dev more than the other three girls, she is patriarchal in her thinking. She can be very possessive and obsessive regarding Dev and in the process, ended up not paying as much attention to Neha, who had to shoulder a lot of responsibilities as a child.

I want cvs make dev realise what sona went thru. Be it through neha or this sanj. But motive shd b dev realisation.

Enough of dramas. Either show dev realisation or show sona happily staying with her children somewhere else without dev.

Can we file petition for this..😆

I do too. I feel that for a poor, uneducated, widowed woman with 4 children to bring up, she did her best. Her best was not enough for the children's well being, but she tried best to her abilities. During that phase of her life, she was not cunning or manipulative. Careless & not so understanding maybe, but she intentionally didn't mean harm. She started being problematic later. After Dev made it big. All those praises that she has made Dev big & Dev's continuous chant Maa tu hi mera Bhagwan hai gave her a superiority complex & she truly started believing she was the God of Dev's life and she owns him. So she had the full right to make Dev dance to her tunes. And Dev was only pleased to do that so she got used to it. When Sonakshi came along, she didn't like the idea that another person may have the same power she has over him. For her, Dev had become this prized toy she has bought with her whole life's savings, so only she gets to play with him.

That is 100% true. No denying there. She totally destroyed Neha's life to build Dev's. But to be totally practical, she didn't have any other options. They were poor & she needed to work as much as she could to place food on the table. She couldn't afford to sit at home & take care of Rhea & Nikki herself. So Neha had to take care of them. She couldn't have done so if she went to school. I kind of understand why she sacrificed Neha's childhood. Because she had no other way out. But I resent her for not acknowledging the sacrifice Neha made & being so obsessed with Dev totally sidelining Neha. I wouldn't have disliked her this much had she said the 3 of them struggled & worked hard to overcome the hardship. She should have focused on Neha when she finally had the means,i.e., once Dev started making money. She could have tried to get Neha education & diplomas privately and tried to make up for her lost days. But she never bothered. It's almost like she used her & then forgot all about her 😑
