Short films are rather challenging. Imagine taking a compelling 400 page story & reading it within 10 minutes. Impossible, isn't it? Well not with film it isn't. All you need is a good cast & a director with a vision & great story telling ability. Time is of the essence & so is the plot. Phew! What a fine line the poor fellow must toe. But if done well, with a good pace & clever editing, the film could be magical, enigmatic even!
Take the show Gateway for instance, just the other day it featured a short movie by one of the participants. Was called 'An Evening O Like Yesterday. The execution was crisp & thus the story that came through was pretty good for an amateur. Am sure the guys there can do much better. But it being their first week & all, guess they do deserve a break. :)
Can't wait for the day when I make my own flick. Working on a couple of short films myself, a few scripts that I'm toying with. Will keep you guys posted on the progress. Till then, why don't you check out Right here. Right now, by Anand Gandhi. A masterpiece which gives short films the true credit of genius they merit.
