I am not a trained singer or musician - wish I was - if any talent I could choose- it would be singing. But I love listening to good music. Composition for me, would mean everything about the song - tune, music arrangement, mood, all the highs and lows - everything - singers then add their nuances. Quite often musicians compose a song without lyrics. And listening to music for many years now, I know that for people to listen to a song, again and again - the composition has to be good, lyrics are secondary ( Like sometimes you do enjoy a song even when you don't understand the language). Also most pure classical singers don't use lyrics.I am always confused between tune and composition. Is there any difference between tune and composition of a song?
I had an idea that composition is the music arrangement. Different composition can be done for same tune. For example, we experience modern composition of 'Rabindra Sangeet' now a days over its classical composition keeping the same tune. Very light use of instruments instead of full time use of harmonium and tabla.
The prelude, interlude and total music arrangement of a song should complement the tune. A song can result in different tastes for music composition in spite of having same tune and lyrics.
