GN, I’m trying hard to find words to express what I felt reading these chapters. It is incredible the whole arc of human nature you managed to capture here. Especially the lot of women, in patriarchal setups. When you have to fight, struggle for whatever little power one can get for yourself. One would expect that would make one more empathetic towards other women. But you see the opposite. Karuna and Mrs. Ojha could’ve been more understanding and helpful towards their DILs, but act as if they are competition, making everybody’s life miserable in the process. Then you see kids suffering for the bad decisions and actions of elders, the effects like a ripple spreading over the course of their life. The other thing I was struck by is whether Mayank in his quest to open Kirti’s eyes, overstepped, took decisions for her. I’m sure he repents now that he knows the full extent of what his parents had done to her.

Most of the chapters of Book Two were difficult to write. Especially Changing Tides, Narrow roads, Nomics. The people and feelings were complex and to put it in words was a challenge. The very reason why second book took so much time to be written.

And you have raised a valid point. In teaching her a lesson, he did overstep his boundaries by taking away her choice. She did not pursue the argument because she's just too relieved to find she's not attached and also because the writer also did not wish to linger there anymore. 😅

Man, Karuna was a devil and has a huge hand in ruining the children’s and their fathers life.
what Urmy did was wrong- no justifying. But karuna had a hand in escalating the situation. She played a big part. Eventually urmi did come back.

Man thinking about the children- especially biplap. He was so young when he witnessed the scheme of his mother being thrown out the second time and how he tried to get guidance internally and matching stories, it’s heartbreaking. But also a very neurotic part of the boys childhood. I don’t blame him for reaching out to his mom in need if he remembers that scene.
I do wonder though, how urmi is with karuna now? A part of me feels that she wouldn’t stoop to karuna s level but I guess we will have to wait for that revelation.

Right Biplab did suffer. Could be the reason why he became vulnerable to panic attacks later in life. He had to see and go through things he didn't know how to cope with.

Midnight boy (Nishit) unknowingly helped Kirti and along with all the drama that happened due to Karuna, she did well and she got selected.

Ojhas have played the antagonist role in her life much more than she can even imagine. Mrs Ojha says her role in her husband's life was just of a maid and that she suffered so much, problem with all these women is, in the disguise of suffering, they have become extremely bitter and vile women.

Fine, her husband was a scum. But she could have at least raised her sons well. Though she is lucky Mayank turned out decent, still he could have been better. And Ravi could have been a good individual. Now her marriage and her children are suffering and not sure if the entire blame should be placed on Mr. Ojha. Mrs Ojha too has an equal role of how they are today.

When elders take wrong decisions, do not own up to their responsibilities and blame the entire world for their problems, then it is the kids who suffer the most.

Urmi's actions made Kirti suffer the most.

I also get now as to why Kirti was so attached to Radha. She saw herself in Radha. Not sure what intentions Urmi has while adapting Radha, but hope she is able to do justice to the child. Is it just to make Kirti accept her mother back or does she feel this is a kind of redemption to her actions?

So Prakash father-son duo turned out to be big fraudsters. Did Nishit now find out about their big frauds and scams when he worked for them? Or did he tip the ED about it I wonder.

Good that Mayank and Kirti are not married and Mayank did good by tricking her and making her realise how it is okay to think about oneself more sometimes.

So Mayank likes a girl or just he has flings?

Also why did Nishit's father only pick Kirti to answer so many questions? Is it because he reconised her or he was surprised that she cracked the exams? Or he wanted to test her genuinely?

Kirti found a good friend in Debbie.

Kirti in that way finds good friends wherever she goes, be it Shruti or Lily and now Debbie.

How and when did Urmi meet Hardiik and who is he really? Does he like Lily?

Mayank and flings, he doesn't want to settle with any one person. What he has seen around has ruined him. Believes in playing it safe.

Let me start with Lily.

When this character was introduced, I didn't imagine her to play such an important role. She is interesting in herself, but I also feel grateful towards her for being a steady support in Kirti's life when she had none. She is a silent observer, but doesn't shy away from calling a spade a spade. And she is so sorted. Apparently no one knows much about her background, but she doesn't hold it against anyone. Lily is so cool. She has definitely found a fan in me!

Her brother accused her of being a loner, and perhaps she is. But when it comes to people who really matter, she is always there even it's inconvenient or uncomfortable for her. She has been a huge support for Kirti during her most trying times and is very protective towards her - making sure Radha doesn't disturb her when she is unwell or showing Biplab his place when he was trying to emotionally blackmail Kirti with his nautanki or even the way she tried to keep Urmi away from Kirti when she was unwell.

Lily seems to have a soft spot for Hardiik, but is afraid to acknowledge it even to herself. But somehow I feel Biplab and her will end up together, irrespective of their current equation. BTW, where is Prasanna? Biplab had blocked her for a year. Did he read the messages she sent an year ago?

P.S. - I have said it before and will say it again, I just love reading the way you write Radha's scenes. That little girl has a knack to draw people into doing what she wants. It's also cute when she mispronounces words and names. She is just ultra adorable! 😍

Hardiik is another character that's intriguing. In Changing tides chapter, Urmi mentioned she would have named her son Hardik with double i. That made me wonder what is the exact relation between her & Hardiik. Maybe their relationship is not what we think it is. Did he always had the double i in his name or did he change it after meeting Urmi? He was always curious about Kirti and is more so now, after observing her in close quarters. He has probably ended up in her list of betrayers when he confessed he knows Urmi. "And even if he comes for me, I bet he will leave. 8 days. 18 years" That statement was quite hard hitting. Every person in Kirti's life who she considered close did come and go away like seasons.

I have a feeling Hardiik knows everything about Urmi's past. Maybe he can bridge the gap between the mother and daughter, once (and if) he manages to salvage his own friendship(?) with Kirti?

Was Urmi responsible for the Forses scandal in some way? Nishit had refused to share information with Urmi, but did she manage to find it herself?

In a way I am glad for the scandal. Ahana is out of the equation because of it. Let's rejoice at the small wins 😁

Bechara, he always seem to be at the wrong place at wrong time. It must have hurt him to see Kirti-Mayank-Radha share a happy family moment, while he is surrounded by scandal and despondency.

How much had Nishit changed for Radha to not recognize him? Was the visit solely for Dadi? Had he wanted to meet Kirti once before he left the country? I also think her text to him during the scandal helped him cope up with grief to some extent.

I loved the little story about the father in the other bogie. Nishit was exactly that. He was always there for Kirti in the other bogie even when she didn't knew about it.
